Simply Everything vs. Everything Data: Internet usage changed? Tethering exploit?

So I currently have the Simply Everything plan... But I barely actually talk on the phone, I only text and use MSN, and the like.

What i'm wondering is, is the only difference between Simply Everything and the 450/900 minute Everything Data plans is the cap on time usage of talking during peak hours?

I use my phone for internet when i'm away from town on the weekends, like when i'm out in the desert, absolutely far away from any form of internet...

It looks like i've used over 3XX MBs of internet this pay period, and slightly over half a gig of internet a few months ago. It's not I use it for downloading stuff, just casual surfing the web and getting information to repair the off-road vehicles we use out in the desert.

I don't pay for tethering... I just use internet sharing, but only because out there, you're always rushing, hooking the phone up to a notebook and using the bigger screen and keyboard makes everything faster. Is it easier to get caught with a Everything Data plan vs a Simply Everything plan?

I just got off chat service with a sales rep and they said I won't be charged anything if I change my current plan over to a 450-ED plan.

Didn't ask if there was a way I could perhaps get my bill that is due in 2 days dropped $30 or so today if I were to actually switch over to a 450-ED plan effective within the next few hours. Perhaps I should call in a bit and ask?

Re: Simply Everything vs. Everything Data: Internet usage changed? Tethering exploit?

The everything data plans work 100% the same as the simply everything, except less minutes. If you aren't getting charged for tethering now, that won't change unless sprint ninjas it and finds some way to detect it.

Fact: Simply Everything doesn't include phone as modem, so you have to use an internet sharing fix either way.

Nights and weekends start at 7, yay sprint.

Re: Simply Everything vs. Everything Data: Internet usage changed? Tethering exploit?

Alright, I also talked to another rep who said to avoid confusing charges, it's best that I switch when my cycle ends? Wouldn't I save more money the sooner I do it? They said the charges would be prorated whatever the hell that means, too much of a big word for me.

Pretty much wondering if I should change it right now online or just wait till the 15th when they charge my checking account... I dunno if I'll save like a few washingtons if I change now or then.

You'll save money but changing now assuming you aren't over the 450 minutes.

Re: Simply Everything vs. Everything Data: Internet usage changed? Tethering exploit?

I've been on my old "Fair and Flexible 200" plan for years now for the same reason. I only pay $29 for 200 mintues because I rarely talk on the phone during the day (busy at work) but I use data all the time. It's a $15/month addon for unlimited data so my bill ends up around $55 with some texts and taxes thrown in. I may have to bump up to the everything 450 plan for the Pre if they require it. I will do it but it kinda sucks to go from a $55 plan to a $70 plan just for more minutes I won't use.

Re: Simply Everything vs. Everything Data: Internet usage changed? Tethering exploit?

The data cap is the same from both the 450ED and the 900ED the only difference is the minutes. By cap i mean a loose estimate around 5gbs. I've seen repeat offenders who are tethering have their service canceled due to "gross misuse" of the unlimited plan. Stop by a store and pick up a plan guide and read the fine print. For all intensive purposes unlimited is unlimited.

Re: Simply Everything vs. Everything Data: Internet usage changed? Tethering exploit?

It's kind of complicated when you change plans in the middle of a billing cycle. Think of it like this. When you paid last months bill, you were paying for the minutes you have available this month (technically pre-paying your minutes). For example's sake, let's say you changed plans 15 days into the billing cycle. Since you already paid for 30 days worth of minutes on your current plan and are changing that 15 days into it, they will prorate your bill. What this means is that they take your bill amount and divide it by number of days in a month (let's say 30) to get the average daily charge. Since you only used 15 days that you already paid for, they will issue you a credit for 15 days worth of charges. On the flip side, you are adding a new plan. They will do the same thing with that and prorate it's charges, because you will only be using that plan for 15 days as well. So you will also see a charge for 15 days worth of usage on the new plan. Then to top it off, you will also see the full monthly charge for the next months plan.

So, on your next bill, you will see
  • a credit for X amount of days you had left in this billing cycle when you switched
  • a charge for X amount of days your new plan was active
  • a full month charge for the next month of service on your new plan
Clear as mud? Hope that helps.
