The new 4G Network (HSPA) for Telus and Bell mobility! Yes or No?

I am with Telus and have been for the past few years, only because they have the best deals on phones and the plans are remarkably cheap! The fact that Telus and Bell Mobility are going to be expanding from EV-DO and 1X and adopting the HSPA network is something they have needed to do for a long time! So many more doors will open to the consumers and from the manufacturers stand-point, easier!

Imagine a cell phone that can download/upload files just as fast or faster than your pc at home. Well, look no futhur. It has been mentioned in many places that the new network will be much faster and much more stable! Now implementing the new Voice-Over-IP technology and puting it into the palm of your hands! I know Skype and a few others have already done this, but, being able to do it 20Mps+ while driving to work, is a feat in itself! Currently the fastest network is topped out at 9.5mps and thats the absolute peek, the mere 20Mps+ is the minimum of the new 4G or LTE network!

This site has a small tidbit of info: http://www.cellphones.ca/news/post004246/

So, for Telus and Bell to take on this new area, I think its a great idea and looking forward to getting onto this network! We shall see by 2010, if they can keep up to the GSM competition by becoming part of the 4G GSM Network!

So they are going from CDMA to a GSM standard? Pretty soon Sprint is going to be the only CDMA carrier in North American......ATT and Verizon both going LTE.....lets all pray for WiMax not being the "dreamcast" of networks.

Actually, from what I heard, the LTE network is going to be a world wide change. CDMA, EV-DO, 1X, are all going to become a thing of the past. As for the dreamcast comment, nice. But I don't see any pitfalls with this network. They are just taking the 3G network and making it better and faster, as to allow for greater coverage world wide!

Re: The new 4G Network (HSPA) for Telus and Bell mobility! Yes or No?

I'm afraid WiMax is a huge mistake for Sprint. Pretty much every other carrier has hinted that they are looking at LTE for their 4G phones. Sprint sticking with CDMA + WiMax would be a dumb decision, because their phones would become incompatible with pretty much every other major carrier. They could theoretically have both LTE and WiMax, but that would be both costly and redundant.

BTW the cool thing about LTE is that it's an all-IP network. All traffic on LTE will be in the form of data packets, including voice and text messages.

Well, as was mentioned in the first url I put, even sprint is seriously considering the LTE network, they already have the WiMax network in place, it'll just be a matter of time before they realize that the WiMax network will be over-shadowed by LTE, at least for the cellular network. Wireless internet on the other hand, is by any means better on the WiMax network. But having the same speed in the palm of your hand as well as through your desktop/laptop. Now thats something to marvel at!

WiMax has a max speed of about 70-80 Mbps. LTE has a max speed of 326 Mbps.

70-80 Mbps....I have high speed cable and it pales to that....I can't imagine something nearly that fast....I don't really need something 5 times faster then that. Give it another 5 years and we will see how it goes.
