ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

Just got a cover sheet and new Equipment Replacement Program booklet from asurion. Looks like the Touch Pro, which is listed as UT Starcom 6900/6950, is as of 4/19/2009 a $100 deductible for a lost phone. I don't see any phones listed under HTC in the booklet and will check on sprint.com

It goes on to say that payment of your TEP monthly charge after April 19 will serve as comfirmation that you agree and accept this change

EDIT. just got off the phone with Asurion, they comfirmed the HTC touch pro is listed as UT Starcom 6900.

So I guess my other question is, does that apply to people who already have TEP or people who just sign up for TEP after that date?

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

If you already had the original asurion plan your deductible still is $50. They can't change your deductible without notice per insurance laws.

whew... can anyone else confirm that? It would suck to have signed an insurance contract and then have the deductible doubled. Though I have yet to use the insurance part of my TEP plan. Everything has been covered by my ESRP plan thankfully.

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

It is a change for everyoine regardless of when you enrolled in the program according to thier booklet. If you lose you touch pro after 4/19/2009, you will have a $100 deductible regardless of the date the phone was purchased.

EDIT. my notice just came in the mail today

Wonder what other phones this applies to. My wife has the Katana DLX, and I doubt they'd go up on her.

I also wonder if this is retribution for all those people who jumped ship from the Mogul because they knew what the replacement would be. Personally, I'd rather have a larger premium each month for TEP than have the deductible go up. Maybe we could buy the deductible down.

The Touch Pro is the 6850, though. The Touch is the 6900 and the Touch Diamond is the 6950. Probably doesn't make any difference, though.

I started another thread on this couple weeks ago when a sprint agent told me about this and what she told me was it would eventually include all phones. Of course that is just what i was told by a sprint person at a repair center and we all know how poorly informed they are.

Wow this iS insane!!
I know times are bad right now,but this is not the time to be raising prices, just like the big companies we are feeling the crunch too, even more so.

Looks like the KatanaDLX is a Tier 1, so $50. All the PDAs seem to be Tier 2 $100.

Attached the PDF if anyone wants to look-up other phones/PDAs.

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

You got it!!!

All PDAs will have a deductible of $100 and the "regular" phones will have $50 deductible.

This is to cut down on all of the "lost phones" claims specially when a new PDA rolls in...

Also Did you know that the Palm pre is not so bad???

this is pretty ridiculous, I have the touch, and i could get one for $100-$150 off ebay without paying the monthly fee. although, if the replacement phone was the diamond, then I would be more understanding.

Asurion Deductable doubling to $100

I just recieved a letter from Asurion saying the deductable for high-end (smart) phones is going up to $100 from the $50 it was in the past... New change goes into effect April 19th, 2009... (Only apply to those with TEP)

I am a sprint customer, so no idea if the other carriers will have this change, but assume its coming...

I just got my booklet in the mail. This is crazy. Instead of just punishing the people that are committing insurance fraud, we all have to suffer. There goes $14 a month that they won't be getting from me anymore.

Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

I searched for this, didn't see anything.

I just got a letter from Asurion saying they are now offering free overnight shipping on all phone replacements and some other crap but they are increasing the deductible from $50 to $100 next month on "tier 2" phones, now while the Pro wasn't listed, in fact, no HTC phone was listed but looking through the list most smart phones were affected by the increase.

If the Moto Q9c was considered a "Tier 2" phone than I assume most smartphones will be considered as such.

Keep an eye out.

I should also note that throughout the life of the phone it will be downgraded from a tier 2 to a tier 1 as it ages and gets cheaper to replace.

Regular matinence is still free

TP, Diamond, etc are included, I don't have the info right now but this was already discussed in another thread. I don't remember if it was here or in sprintusers.

Saw it coming after how much the system has been abused.

look under "UT Starcom" i think.
but, yeah, definitely $100 for the mogul/tp.

guess it's time to go to AT&T :P (kidding!)

I said a year ago this was going to happen, they need to limit the abuse of the system somehow.......

$100 will make people think twice before forcing them to replace a perfectly working phone 5 or 6 times (& then bragging about it on boards like this)......

All this does though is punish the people that are not abusing it. They should have been more strict about pay outs. Or made it tougher to get an exchange. Its insurance, they should label the abusers as "uninsurable"
