Honestly, I can understand why they are doing it.

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

I cant understand why... If they are going to do this then they need to reduce the monthly premium to $2 or something. $84 a year plus $100 a trade, $200 for "insurance". In 2 years you will have spent almost $400 on so called insurance, when you are better off just putting that money in a jar because in 2 years your phone wont be worth $400.

Because its easier. Its much easier to just charge everybody more to recoup their losses then to actually spend time and money cracking down on the abusers.

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

Yeah I agree with the above poster, if its $100 deductible, Im not laying out my $14 a month anymore. As it stands for one phone per year its $84 bucks plus a $100 deductible? Well you better break your phone in a year just so it only costs you $184. After that you are better off putting the money away yourself since next year you will have spent $268 dollars to replace your phone and I doubt your phone will be worth that much, let alone the fact that you are getting a refurb, not a brand new phone.

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

I actually have never used the insurance on my plan. Everything was covered by the service and repair part. It does suck that if and when I lose my phone I will have to pay 100$ for a phone that's likely refurbed. For phones like ours that cost 600$ direct (300 at best on ebay), it might make sense, but for people who own cheaper phones like the motorola Q9c, insurance is totally not worth it. For the normal flip style phones? Forget about it, its a waste of money. I can imagine that many people will start opting out of insurance or cancel it altogether.

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

So, now I pay $7 every month just so that I can have a $100 deductible to replace my phone if it messes up?

Lame.

I've only used it twice. Once for my Mogul, and they gave me a refurb at the Sprint store for free, and once for my Touch, which had black splotches all over the screen. That cost me $50 because they said "it doesn't affect the functionality of the phone."

A-holes.

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

WowZers! Sad ppl abuse the system but like someone posted drop the cost of the insur monthly! I had insur on my phone since day one(the big remote qualcomm phone lol) and I think I might have used insur once all my years with sprint(the samsung flip phone they had that was prone to crack on the side) I'm usually very very careful with my phones but I would hate to think I'll have to shell out 100bucks for a refurb phone.

Afrigginmen brother! This is ridiculous, it was expensive paying $7.00 x 12 months + $50.00 already IMO!

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

Hmm. This does seem very expensive. They should have looked at a tiered approach, where the first replacement was 50 then more for subsequent replacements. I may drop this in a few months as I am now a sprint premier member and I am eligible for an upgrade in 11 months.

BTW. I bought my phone from best buy. Is their insurance comparable?

The psp is pretty much the same but your not going to get many replacements without raising an eyebrow.

I think ill insure my next phone with squaretrade and just keep the 3$ sprint insurance. squaretrade just gives you cash for your stuff.

Yea, they should have done that from day one & they never would have had the abuse problem in the first place.

Some of the ridiculous things you read on this site that people have had their phone replaced for are what caused this to happen.

How many posts have we seen here where people are on their sixth or seventh phone having them replaced for something that was never really a problem in the first place?? (or inventing a problem so they could get a free upgrade, posters on this site are some of the worst offenders & they laugh about it)

i got a letter form them about this // when i went with sprint i was suprized the an insurance claim was only 50 and not 100 for a smartphone.

and the TP is also in this they will be 100 to replace ... its any smartphone/ppc

im also surprised this thread has not been moved to the news section

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

i dont have a problem with this at all...anytime a new phone comes out people rush to sprint stores and asurion trying to get a free upgrade...

7 dollars a month isnt much for me...and if you do some of the things with my phone that i do(flashing custom roms and what not) if i brick a phone i feel as though i should pay for it...100 for a 600 phone is a good deal anyway you slice it

and im not sure how it is in corporate markets but its my understanding that the only way you have to pay the deductible is if the phone is lost, stolen, has liquid damge, has physical damage (cracked screen, broken or bent ports and/or pins, or broken beyond economic repair (smashing it to bits)

everything else should be replaced in store with some grey areas like bricked phones from bad flashing.

this isnt a surprise...ive been with sprint a long time and this is the best deal...with att in my area they dont service or replace any phones...so anything thats broken has to go through asurion and you pay the deductible...and for the longest you couldnt even insure pda's

nvm the fact im assuming since ausurion does insureance for VZW and ATT that their deductibles are going up as well...

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

I've had the insurance for some time now. When I had the 6700 I use to drop and crack the screen all the damn time. For awhile, I would claim it stolen and pay a $50 deductible. As recently as last month, I received a Mogul refurb (finally), but it ran extremely slow and so I wanted to replace it. Sprint said I would need to pay a deductible.. so I cracked the screen, took it in, and they replaced it for free. Hope this method helps anyone avoid paying the deductible. $7 a month is enough.

And there you have it. Another fine example of why the deductible is going up for the people who are actually honest and do things the right way.

Is there any "hard" facts of when this goes into effect?

jjday7 02-20-2009 05:21 PM

Re: Asurion increasing deductible from $50 to $100 on "tier 2" phones

for everything I have on my sero plan I am saving like $80.00 a month over what everyone else is paying on verizon and at&t so I don't think this is a big deal.

Lets say you get your phone and paid full price or even the upgrade price and two months later you lose it or it gets run over by a car. Is $100.00 to much to pay then. I don't think so. You could have no insurance and have to go buy another one from sprint for full price of $579.00

This affects the people that pay insurance for years and only file one claim. They are the ones that are being ripped off.

Well dont f**k up your phone lololol

I always make it a point to avoid the A word at any cost but it doesn't surprise me at all.

It sucks because the level of service will not increase at all. You will still get ****ty refurbs.

Seems to me that Sprint is more lax with the claims anyway. As long as you don't chew on your phone or run it over with a 18 wheeler you can avoid asurion

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

If there is a manufacturer's defect, will we still have to go through Assurion for $100?
The glass face is lifting off the screen and actually became dangerously sharp on the corner. The phone has never been dropped or left out in the sun to warp. It's a basic sloppy build. What happens now? $100?
:(

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

it's threads like "mogul to TP now!!! moguls out of stock!! get your TP for $50!" that are causing us to basically have to pay for their upgrades.... I think the step system would be awesome.
in a 2 yr period.
$50 for first asurion replacement
$100 for second...
$150 for third...
etc.

So instead of bothering to fix it correctly, you made a fraudulent insurance claim??

Everybody make sure you hit the thanks button for all the posters like this everytime you get hit for $100 when you make an honest claim.......

No. TEP is an optional add-on, so this does not void your contract.

Re: ASURION TEP replacement program changes to $100 deductible

100 bucks isn't really that bad, if you loose your phone once.....it saves you 500 or so bucks....twice and its a 1000.....If you want the expensive phone, got to pay. Hell even if they just let you upgrade everytime you filed a claim, you'd still be paying 300 for a new phone.

Squaretrade may pay cash, but they top out at $399 for a phone, still not enough for a new high end device, even as its EOL nears.

I received the letter too, though they said there will be no change to my monthly insurance premium (which I pay $4 per month). I wonder if I should cancel my insurance. I have mogul. If I lose my phone and they allow me to get touch pro, then I'll think about it.
