We are a far cry from Pittsburgh here

Also, to answer your question, the WiMax here is about on par with a decent cable connection as opposed to the DSL-ish speeds of EVDO Rev. A. Coverage was ok. It didn't penetrate into buildings as well as EVDO. No contract makes it tempting to try out but I found it difficult to justify paying for DSL for my home network, EVDO for my phone, and WiMax for my laptop just to use it at the park or on the bus or whatever.

Until there is a more unified service (one plan, one price) that gets pricing into line I'm not biting. I would pay for a phone with unlimited Wimax if it is not too much more expensive than the $15/mo I pay for unlimited EVDO. Maybe $20 tops. I would pay more if it meant a Wimax modem in the house, a Wimax radio in my phone and laptop, and it was all one plan, not per-device the way Xohm/Clear/Whatever works. I would pay approximately $50 per month for service like I described and only if it defaulted to EVDO in non-Wimax areas.

Just my opinion, Sprint probably needs to focus on their core business and improve their churn. If they keep on losing customers at an alarming rate, what bank is going to loan them money in this type of economy?

If they get any help, it would be highly unlikely to be from Uncle Sam. The only help I can see is if some company like Google wants to jump immediately into the wireless industry (which the have hinteed in the past) and gobble Sprint up. But even that might be a long shot.
Sprint doesn't need money. They have over 4 billion in cash. Sprint has the money to implement WiMax, hence the reason they invested in Clearwire.

I really wish this thread would be closed, because few people that post in it have a grasp on what's really going on, let alone a grasp on how business works.

Go ahead and wish in one hand then sh*t in the other, tell me which one fills up first.

This thread, as all threads here (hopefully) is meant to educate and inform. Please inform us, what are we not grasping?

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

I have learned some good stuff... And the title of the thread is "Bad news for Sprint"... It happens that we have discussed the general health of Sprint, but the topic has generally strayed not that far...

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

There has been 3.2 billion invested into wimax from investors such as Google, Brighthouse, Time-Warner to name a few to aid Clearwire to get wimax built out, tested and marketed. Sprints involvement was mainly to get the rest of the 2.5ghtz spectrum. The money is there for wimax, thats not the issue. Right now its being tested and details being ironed out of the merge of sprint/xohm and clearwire/clear.

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

I see that Wi-Max must be rolled out rather quickly to succeed against LTE..
