Here lets try this: I think Sprint will end up getting a bs bailout from the government just like the big 3 car companies are getting. If we are to learn anything from the auto bailout, it's this: Companies dont need to learn from their mistakes, or sell items to make money.
IMO (In My Opinion), Sprint won't get squat from the government.

What's the point of helping or bailing them out for digging their own grave? Multiple other carriers are doing just fine and dandy with their business model(s). These other carriers are growing and evolving right along with what the wireless market is dictating.

We could say the same about the American car companies, and how they have dug their own grave, and yet, they will be getting help one way or another. Regardless of how low Sprint has sunk, there is still a long drop that would have to happen before they were completely gone. It's not like they are bankrupt, or in danger of losing their place in the stock market.

Re: Bad news for Sprint...

Sprint doesnt need a bail out... They just need to get on track and focus on their core- Sprint Cellular and Wi-Max... Sell off Nextel, invest heavily in Wi-Max, and improve internal procedures.. Become a leaner, meaner version..

Honestly, besides us, techno-enthusiasts, the people in Sprint, or Intel, or people related to Wi-Max, and obviously Pittsburgh (I forgot where), nobody really knows about Wi-Max.. My mom doesnt, my uncle in Atlanta doesnt, none of my friends at U of M know about it... They need to advertise it.. Get people excited about it.. Get the common public excited about it.. They can't rely on word-of-mouth...

True and I agree to some extent, but you're talking about the difference between an American Industry (automakers) and one single company (Sprint).

Also, the wireless carriers do not have the same type of competition that the automakers do, right?

You have some valid and logical points, but let's compare apples to apples.

What kind of download speeds would wimax offer? Would it be a viable competition to land line internet providers?

Wimax does rival landline internet providers but the problem is infrustructure and education... The technology is already there. The problem is implementation and that costs $$$, which Sprint definitely does not have.

Just my opinion, Sprint probably needs to focus on their core business and improve their churn. If they keep on losing customers at an alarming rate, what bank is going to loan them money in this type of economy?

If they get any help, it would be highly unlikely to be from Uncle Sam. The only help I can see is if some company like Google wants to jump immediately into the wireless industry (which the have hinteed in the past) and gobble Sprint up. But even that might be a long shot.

If they really wanted to get in to wireless that would be an ideal way to hit the ground running.

Network is built out, a customer base is already present, for all intensive purposes the company is intact and ready to roll.
