My point is/was that they won't just "go under" They wouldn't be the first communications company to operate in the red and look for a potential suitor.

And they got that way by??? Mergers, joint ventures, name changes and acquiring other companies + their subscribers, right? Moot, I think not.

Just like in all business, if you need something you either buy it or build it. Customer bases operate under the same premise. You can market to and bring customers or you can acquire them through other means. Same with physical network and capacity. You either build it out or buy it already built out.
