Re: How To: Use another carriers HTC on VZW
Woo. Interesting. Okay, switched ESN back, called *228 option 3, and I got a representative (oops!) who wanted me to call back on a different phone so they could let me take out my battery and do a bunch of other stuff. I said I could probably do it online easier, thankyou for your help, and formality. Then I went online and activated it like I did the last time. Went flawlessly.
Then I tried a data connection again... entered (phone)@vzw3g.com as the UserID and vzw as the password, and hit Connect. For the first time, I didn't get a PCS Vision error... I got a modem error from Windows! Previously, the error first came up at the bottom as a notification (PCS Vision error), then a popup at the top. This time it tried dialing once, then tried dialing again, then said "No modem at above number. To check your connection settings...". Very odd indeed. Do you know of a direct number at Verizon I should try calling for that DMU Reset? And it begs the question, you think I could convince them to (if at all possible) switch on VCast for this line again, given the "I already hate Verizon..." circumstances? :P |

It is not possbile to add Vcast to a PDA the system will not allow it as it populates feature based off the device model. Our tech cannot add it either. Back end data features work very differently on a pda than a dumbphone such as your old vx8300. Call the regular 1-800 number on your statement to get transferred to tech support. I wont list any of our internal numbers or extensions. |

... Crappo. Well in that case there's really no use in even setting up data on this darn thing...

So I guess that answers the question of why data wasn't working... although I don't quite "get" why the PDA references Sprint when I had the VX8300's ESN on it, it seems to be working much better now at least for those that like getting financially raped by Verizon's data packages. =\ (Seriously, either 1.5c per KB or 45 bucks a month? Man I knew I was getting a good deal with VCast but I didn't think it was that good...) I guess I'll take further questions to PM as it doesn't really relate to this thread anymore. Thanks! |

Re: How To: Use another carriers HTC on VZW
Augh... nope, no such luck. The guy did all sorts of stuff and in the end I got no further than I started.
He reset everything (set everything back to defaults as he said) and couldn't get me the $29 plan because my phone "doesn't support it" (like VCast). Verified the DUN settings, soft reset a few times, and the last available option was to hard reset the phone, which I was like, euh, yeah... uh... I think I'll just live with it. Wanted to see if he knew anything about EPST settings, but at that point he was like, well, that's not something we support... it's like hacking the phone and we have no idea what settings could get messed up like that. So, facepalm. However, the first time I tried connecting after the second soft-reset (he changed something else), the first connection attempt took significantly longer than usual. Not sure if that's significant or anything, but it's definitely something different... ;) I really think it has something to do with the phone's embedded file system. Something in there is corrupted and I have no way of fixing it because nobody seems to have ever posted a dump of their XV6700's non-indentifying EFS files. Maybe I should try changing "11111111" back to "VZW__001" in nvm_htc? Or does that file even matter? I guess at any rate, "facepalm", since I can't even get data service on this thing to begin with. It's good to have a working, stable PPC back, but I'm sure the novelty of having an all-in-one device versus two devices that can do "anything" (hey, the VX8300 is a _very_ capable and flexible communications device - it can cancel accidental texts unlike the Apache! LOL). I'm just coming to realize how off-topic I've gotten this... lol. But thanks for the help none the less :) EDIT: I'm using this ROM, with the radio, ExtRom, and OS all flashed in one go. I aborted the customization and applied most of the CABs manually without the restrictive CABs installed. |

Hi, I'm not trying to steal the thread or anything....but I have a question as if there is a way to do this the other way around.... vzw to sprint??? Could you explain what the settings would be for that? Anyone? Thanks in advance! TJ |
Re: How To: Use another carriers HTC on VZW
Possibly but will sprint allow a foreign esn from another carrier?
