Pre-paid SIMs for France & Italy?

What are the best recommendations and price for pre-paid SIM cards in France and Italy?

I'll be there this fall and will have my unlocked Rhodium 500 for the odd calls, SMS, and limited data.

...then the questions of network connection settings for each carrier...
