More choices with Alltel?

I've read through the forum and haven't quite found what I'm looking for. I'm one of, probably only a handful, of people that are stuck with Alltel after Verizon bought the company. Alltel only has one option for Android and that is the Hero. I did manage to root it and flash a great ROM and overclocked to 710mHz but it leaves me wanting more. I'm wondering if its possible to use some other Sprint/Cellular South/etc. devices on the Alltel network. If so can someone point to a guide of some sort that may help me on my quest for a better Android device without having to buy out of my contract and switch to another carrier.
Thanks in advance,

CS

Re: More choices with Alltel?

I will look around and see if I can find anything to help. However, I don't know if Alltel gives the option, but you could always look into finding someone that wants the Alltel account and doing a ToBR (Transfer of Billing Responsibilities).

Re: More choices with Alltel?

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I've stumbled across some programming guides for the Droid X and Incredible and read where a some people had them working(with only a few quirks) on Alltel but the process is lengthy and very unstable. I'd hate to spend $400-$500 on a phone then brick it.
Thanks again ,

CS

Re: More choices with Alltel?

Alltel will activate almost any phone, as long as you do it over the phone with a csr, I have flashed several sprint winmo phones to alltel (bad esn sprint much cheaper than clean alltel). if they give you guff about the esn not being on their list, just say you already called and was told you could activate the phone, they will honor what you were(n't) told. As far as getting an android phone switched to run on alltel, im about as much a noob as you can be.

Re: More choices with Alltel?

Thanks for the good info. I've also found that Alltel MAY be getting the Desire in October. Its got a much faster processor. I also found out I can switch my data card for a secondary smart phone for the same price so I may just hold off and see what comes down the pike. Many thanks for the info.

Re: More choices with Alltel?

When we had Alltel here (Now CrapVerizon) I could switch other carrier's CDMA phones in. In fact I switched to a nTelos MotoQ when my Touch Pro took a crap. I had to do all the data programming, but it is possible.
