"Unlocked?"

This is the question I have been trying to get answered. Can I use an unlocked sprint PPC phone on Verizon to get around the data plan requirements? Has anyone tried? I seem to keep hearing from people on this site that you cant use a carrier specific phone with another provider. When I do general online research though, I get a different answer. At least as far as getting phone service. No one seems to have any info about the data plan question though. Had a customer at work tell me he was using a new droid without a data plan by unlocking one from a different provider. Said that the ESN would come back as "unknown device," but activate and work fine.

Re: "Unlocked?"

I appreciate the answer, but this still doesn't tell me if anyone has tried to axe the data plan requirement this way.
