2) it has the 5gb cap

3) wimax is better latency then hspa+ anyways so wimax would load pages faster and load smoother while hspa+ will only benefit from downloading large files and the benefit will disappear once more users get on it

Fair anough. But U still have just a few spots on few cities and the plan to roll out 100 cities is still just a plan. They always say that this will be like this in this time. Does it happen? what T-mo has now is HSPDA which rolled out last january.

It's been quite a good week for the T-Mobile subscribers. After becoming the first carrier to get the Google Nexus One Android powerhouse, the company has now upgraded its 3G network to accommodate the increasing demands of modern mobile phones and modems.
Starting today, the entire 3G network of T-Mobile in the United States should be able to provide downlink speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps (currently 3.6 Mbps). We say "should", because user reports suggest that some areas are still stuck with vanilla 3G and its modest (as of year 2010) data throughput.
The answer of the competition also didn't took too long either. Right after the T-Mobiel announcement, AT&T went ahead and announced that they're ready with the HSPA 7.2 Mbps software upgrade of their base stations. They still need to overhaul their cells physically though. The first test markets for the super-duper high-speed data will be the cities of Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami. Nationwide coverage should be completed in 2011.
Now, which will be the first one to jump on the LTE bandwagon?


Still a long way to go for t-mo, and we are just talking about HSPA+. Not even 4G

You are correct about the cap but honestly i'm not looking to replace my home internet, I get 50mbps with comcast and soon 100mbps, but for people looking to replace their home internet then correct wimax is a better choice because of the cap.

you're 100% right but tmobile stated their going LTE as well, so until they get their lte network up they have hspa+ as a patch. So we will se what happens. Whats good with verizon is their starting their LTE at 40mbps where Sprint started their wimax at only 10mbps, but at least sprint will have theirs up a year earlier.

Now, those HSDPA speeds are tested on a broadband modem. T-mo's phones are just 3G so T-mos smartphone users are not really taking advantage of it.

I doubt verizon will let ppl have the full 40mbps...it wouldn't make sense economically. It also does not coincide with their test results

Verizon's LTE field trials in Boston and Seattle have shown average downlink rates of 5Mbit/sec. to 12Mbit/sec. and average uplink speeds of 2Mbit/sec. to 5Mbit/sec., which would give mobile customers browsing speeds comparable to what users would expect from a typical wired home Internet connection, the company said.

Edit: HD2 can do HSPA+ I think..but no speed tests on it yet :/

Oh and just to add here is the true specs for 4g..so both wimax and LTE deployments that exist today do not meet the standards for 4g yet..but will once they get upgraded to their "Advanced" forms

This article states all 3g phones are backwards compatible and will take advantage of the upgraded network. Also the article I posted above shows the hd2 getting 10mbps.
