verizon voicemail problem

so i used to be alltel
now i am verizon
one thing i noticed about now that im on verizon and i listen to my new voicemail message. and then hangup. i still will get the voicemail notification. it still says that its new even if i clear it from the phone settings. the only way i have found out is to delete the voicemail. or save it, but if i save it will i permanently save the message?

regular voicemail or visual voicemail??? I had a similar problem with my visual voicemail. The problem was that I wasn't giving the data connection enough time to send it back to Verizon(or where ever it goes) to clear itself. Now i wait until my data arrows turn color and the connection is complete. that solved my problem
