Wrong carrier on screen

I have a coworker that has the curve 8520 through t-mobile. The sim card in the phone is clearly t-mobile, and her service is with t-mobile. However, the banner at the top of the screen says at&t. This makes no sense to me. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
