Wireless Tethering

Question; Which build runs wireless tethering? I've tried FRX05, RED and Blazn... and can't get it to work on my Verizon TP2. Suggestions or is there a setting that I'm missing.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Wireless Tethering

Search?

There's the XDAndroid wifi tether app.

There's Barnacle wifi tethering, on the Market.

My personal fave - the built-in wifi tethering works fantastic, and is the only one I've found that creates a REAL AP to connect to!

Does your regular wifi work? Assuming that does, I would think the built-in wifi tethering works.

I use it on FRX05 all the time, works great. I'd assume the other builds work, but I have not a clue as I never run them for more than 10 minutes .

Thanks for responding and you've been thanked.
Consider me a dummy...so where is the built-in wifi tethering located? Also, do I have to turn on wifi first to get the tethering app to work? Mine does not turn on. This could be my problem. I have tried both Barnacle and the one in the link with no luck.

I guess I'll ask again.

Does wifi work in general? If it doesn't, wifi tethering certainly won't work.

You've got to poke around the settings app more! Lots of hidden gems in there .

Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Tethering & Portable Hotspot...

USB tether doesn't work (it does with EasyTether + adb, but native one doesn't work yet), but wifi tethering should - again, assuming your wifi works in general.

O and to answer your question - you do not need to turn on wifi manually. I just suggested testing wifi to make sure that wifi on the phone works...

Thanks again..
Now in general, don't think my wifi is working. It will not turn on. Just keeps stay at Turning on. this could be the root of my problem. Also, mine just reads Tethering..not Tethering & Portable Hotspot.
Thanks for your help.

I've had mine working in the red build, and the othere froyo x builds, works awesome! I know some people who have "real" android phones with 2.1, and they don't even have this!

Sent from my FROYO X RED using Tapatalk

Thanks... I didn't even know about this. Thought I needed an app to do the wifi tethering. Guess it's because I never used it

I'm typing this via the wifi tethering connection on FRX05 in my phone now. Working great... though it's a battery hog... 2 radios sucking up power

Ok, let's break this down.

If wifi doesn't work for you, wifi tethering certainly won't. So let's figure out why wifi is broken - have you changed the kernel (zImage) or modules (modules-xxxx-tar.gz) at all? If so, you must be careful to ensure that the modules match the zImage - they are packaged together.

In addition to that, you also must make sure you remove old kernels/modules lest you mix them up!

So let's start with that - get wifi workin, then we can look into wifi tethering.

If worse comes to worse, crap the newest bundle of FRX05 - doesn't need anything to get cam working or wifi working, assuming you just drop the build on your card with no modifications .
