Froyo X and Android Tether

I can't get the program to start tethering. Anyone have any suggestions. I have tried posted in the android thread asking this question but it is getting over looked. Before the current 1/28 update it asked if I was rooted. But now it just says it can't start.

Re: Froyo X and Android Tether

Are you doing wifi tethering, or USB tethering?

Using the built-in app or an external app?

3rd party, there's Barnacle Wifi tethering, which seems to work - but I prefer the built-in utility as it seems to create an actual AP as opposed to an ad-hoc cxn.

For USB, there's EasyTether - installs an app on your PC, and then uses adb to bridge the network connection to your PC - works like a champ!

You're not getting crashes from the built-in wifi tethering? Particularly crashes when you disable it, freezing the whole system?

Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Tethering & Portable Hotspot...

USB doesn't work thru this mode, you have to use EasyTether for that.

AFAIK, the built-in one works, but as was stated earlier it implodes if you tear down the hotspot and try to start it back up.

With that said, I also got a TON of SoD's when doing wifi tethering... For me, USB tethering works better (less SoD) and it's faster. Plus, it charges .

Which is, I would say, the only "downfall" of the software. They're just tryin to make a buck, and it's the only option we have for USB tethering at the moment .

Yea use the wifi tether app that came with the original 1.28 build... I tried mine the other day, and it worked really good! Pretty much as fast as my normal wireless connection... showed up as "android tether" on my laptop
