Glad I tried it, but...

I don't think I am a fan of Android. I admit, I was enthused, at first, but after spending a few days playing around with XDAndroid on my Tilt 2, I'm convinced that I'm in no hurry to upgrade my phone. I've been a WinMo user since 2003, so I'm pretty familiar with its strengths and weaknesses and how to overcome most of them. Droid does some things well (reflowing web pages when zooming is one), but it seems more like a Mac to me in the way that a lot of the OS is inaccessible to the user unlike WinMo. As a tinkerer/modder, I feel like WinMo lets me get under the hood easier and better and in more ways. I'm sure my short exposure to Android is probably not unbiased, but I just couldn't find the customizability level that WinMo has built-in to it. It looks good, it worked OK (a bit sluggish, horrendous battery usage and no BT didn't let me really enjoy it), but it just felt too rigid compared to the flexibility I'm used to with WinMo.

I do have to give props to the people behind porting this to work on my Tilt 2. I'm sure it wasn't easy. Thanks to all you developers who share your talents here and on XDA. Gonna play with it a little more, but I'm no longer feeling any Droid envy.

To paraphrase Tim Allan, I'd rather pound my nuts flat with a hammer than use WinMob one more day. Why does it take 8 seconds between the time you hit the End button and when it actually disconnects? WHAT IS IT DOING???

Android rocks!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile6.0) Sprint T7380)

XDAndroid works good for what it is. It really isn't fully Android and has lots of issues.

It was good enough to show me that there is a viable replacement and that I can wait for it.:)

Wow! You are like my twin brother. I had a tp2,touch pro, touch. And installed all the xandroid builds on them. I found warm donut 1.6 worked the best but outdated. And I was on the same boat, "this is awful! Its not as fast as I thought it would be.no reg? No hacks? Junk!" Then I happen to try 2.1 eclair on galaxy s. Omg! 10000000000 times better than the ports out there! I was blown away by the performace on a device designed for android. I was shocked how fast out performed. Dude... Trust me. Xandroid is 5% of what the real Android is. Trust me.

I didn't say Android was bad, just that it isn't so Earth-shattering that I have to have it right now. I'll probably end up with an Android phone, but XDAndroid convinced me that I can keep using my Tilt 2 awhile longer and need not rush to replace it right now. I was eligible for an upgrade last month, but I think I will wait a few more.

That's a shame. As a former user of WinMo, and an Android user for a year or so now, Windows Mobile 6.x is like looking at the world through a peephole while Android is like standing on top of a skyscraper. While it isn't the end-all-be-all of OSes, and is still at risk of losing the game in the long run (like so many open-source temporary commercial successes), in the face of Windows Mobile, it's a total mobile revolution.

If you can get your hands on any galaxy s phone, you will understand what I meant. Xandroid is nice to just see how android is. But real android on galaxy s, is just incredible.
