Re: Simple Guide, 6 Easy Steps (15 min): 6/23 ANDROID TP2 DL links, FRX06, GingerBre

Just a quick questions regarding establishing USB connection between the android and a PC, I haven't been able to establish anything between the two since I can remember. I only noticed this recently as I am experimenting with different home brew apps. Just want some confirmation as to whether this ever worked before or just my particular setup?
Thank you!

USB Mass Storage has never worked. It kinda partially works with dedicated partitions, but I don't think it'll ever fully work until we go NAND - then the SD card is free from its shackles!

Anyhoo, ADB has worked forever... which allows for a faked USB mass storage ability using Droid Explorer. Have you read the FAQ?!?!

There's also USB tethering, which seems out of the scope of your question, but you weren't very specific. For a while it required a special app, but in the newer kernels this works natively.

thanks for the quick response again. Yeah, I must have skipped that part of the FAQ as I have read it over many times for some minor fixes along the way. I have not actually tried the USB tethering yet maybe I will give that a try right now. Thanks for bringing that up to my attention.

With my patches (and dedicated partitions) USB mass storage works 100%, NAND not required.

Ah I thought that still broke and required a reboot after usage. Hard to keep track of all the crap that's been fixed, thanks!

These patches, I assume were kernel patches...? If so, did they make it to autobuild or are they waiting for something as well? Just curious, I'd like to try it .

So I tried the droidexplorer work around and it worked. Thank you very much for pointing out my lack of focus hahahaha. Anyhow, I just want to know have you gotten wifi and USB tethering to work with the latest kernels? I tried them both and both of them are non-functional. Just wondering if it's my setup or broken? thank you

Both work for me. USB tethering was enabled... a month ago IIRC, and wifi tethering has worked for a long time. It's not flawless, I found USB tethering to be much more solid.

Well, it used to work... I just tried USB tethering and it failed... hum. I am on an odd setup, let me try with a more 'stock' configuration.

THanks for trouble shooting this. As far as I know, before going to the latest kernels, wifi works but I never tried wifi or usb tethering on the previous batches. To my amazement, not only did wifi or usb tethering fail but so did wifi. I guess i should mention that I carried over my data file again as I was lazy to restart the whole thing again.

Well if wifi doesn't work, wifi tethering certainly will not.

Where did you carry you data.img from? Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm going to triage this and try to narrow it down, like I said the build I was testing on... wasn't exactly a production setup .
