Can I please ask for a request of what "utils" you use, be posted on the 1st or second post please? I have tried several battery showing apps, and task managers, some seem to be ok, but 2 days ago, I read (somewhere I cannot find the post) that you were using some app for task manaagment? It goes without saying, you have done MARVELOUS work on these droid threads, sure as heck helped me a lot. So since you also seem to find the best apps, can you at least list them, so I know what to hunt for in market (or elsewhere)?

Thanks a huge amount.

I love this android on my TP2, but when I try a new build I have to reload all my apps, and without the old one running, I forget what all I need, liked, and what not (I know what I liked isnt your concern)... LOL but a couple 3 or 4 basic needs, like astro, and task manager, etc.

thanks.

Well thanks for your kind words. There is a folder, AndroidApps that is a small treasure trove of useful apps. I probably need to brush it up - two problems with it tho, the more apps I put in there the larger the build gets, and certain apps that are 'free' of charge, I cannot include. Technically I don't think I'm even supposed to bundle gapps, but hey :p.

As for a task manager specifically, I like SystemPanel Lite. Very rarely do I have to go in and kill apps, but sometimes when the phone isn't sleeping correctly and you've looked at everything else - that's the next place to go. That durn Weatherbug "Elite" app I got from the Amazon app store for free was absolutely slaughtering sleep, stay away from it!

Back to your topic, for reinstalling apps there's two methods that work pretty well. You can get the build where you like it app-wise, and then go thru the /data/app folder and pull out all the APK's you like. Store them in the AndroidApps folder, and if you blast out your data.img, those apps will magically be installed for you ;). The one thing that doesn't address is the data within said apps, and if you want to back that up I highly recommend Titanium Backup - this is one of those apps I'd like to include, but I don't think I can. I'll poke around, perhaps I am able to include that app. That and SystemPanel Lite I am going to try and provide APK's for in future builds, in that AndroidApps folder!

PS - this isn't my thread, so I can't modify posts at the beginning :p. I can certainly include a list in my thread, but I think the AndroidApps folder is more direct, assuming that it is OK that I include them.

I just want to say thanks to the folks that have put this thread together since the materials are now in one place. i have followed all this for several months and it is easily confusing for the novice user.

I just took the phone to Costa Rica for a week and have to say between WiMo and Android I did not have to bring a laptop and was totally functional in a GSM/WiFi world.

Cheers

Jerry, would you mind sharing what you did to get GSM part of the android to work? I do see cell signals but just can't make any calls. I've tried a few of the suggested methods from the FAQ section of xDAndroid, but still isn't fully functional.

I assume you're on a RHOD400?

SIM is in the slot, force_cdma=0...

The only other thing that might trip you up is I've heard the setting in WinMo - what is the network set to? I think it needs to be set to GSM only. Not positive tho... hyc is working on true WorldPhone support, and he seems close - so soon maybe we'll be able to switch between the two within Android ;).

Yeah, i'm on RHOD400. I am currently not in the states, so i'm using mainly GSM mode. I felt stupid to ask such a question only to find the answer the next second. But being able to switch between two modes within Android would definitely be nice. It's been a long time since I played with any of these, sorry for being a noob all over again.

We're all noobs at one point or another :p.

So are you good, is it workin? You should give hyc's new RIL a shot, but AFAIK the WorldPhone code isn't complete... so we're not quite there ;).

Things are working now, thank you very much for your response. I just got bored these couple of days, so I started to look at the android thing again. Things have moved along quite a bit since I last played with it, which is always a good sign. I know from previous experiences that notification LED is always on, and when the phone sleeps, it should be green to tell you that the phone is not draining battery. It seems to be the case here as the LED stays on all the time, however it stays orange all the time even when in sleep mode. Did I miss anything?

Glad GSM is workin for you now.

Orange = full wake

Green = full sleep

On WisTilt2's test kernels, there's a third state - blinking green = wakelock present - something preventing sleep in other words. adb, gps, etc will all generate wakelocks.

So if you're always solid orange, the phone isn't sleeping - at all. Make sure GPS is disabled, and there aren't any apps running wild.

AFter playing with it a little more, I finally noticed the blinking green you're talking about. I will try to turn off everything e.g. gps, background syncing. and see if that helps with the situation.

I do have a new problem now. My phone can't receive cell signal after I rebooted. The phone is showing no service. I don't know what is changed between when it worked and now. Maybe you know a fix to this if not, I can just reinstall everything again.

Well there is a bug in the newer kernels that only effects CDMA devices being used as GSM.

Basically when the screen turns off, the GSM radio turns off with it. WisTilt2 has a potential fix, but I need someone to test it.

However, if the radio appears off when the screen is on? That's an entirely different issue, and I'd check the normal things we already went over...

Hi all,
I was able to get the froyo full bundle on here and I'm positive my wi-fi is turned on, but when I go to settings to turn on the Wi-Fi I just get an "Error" message. Is there a special way I need to be turning on wireless through Windows? I've already tried to reboot and reset, but nothing has worked.Help, please?

What do you mean turning on wireless thru Windows...?

If you're using an ad-hoc network, I don't think Android will see them. You said you're using the Froyo full bundle, I assume FRX06 - did you change anything? There's a lot of testing stuff flying around, and while wifi should work OOB for FRX06, if you're using some testing elements that might break wifi.

There's also a few rare souls who wifi has never worked no matter what they do - and they need to hack at the wifi-nvram.txt file. We can cross that bridge when the time is right.

Hi arrrghhh
My phone is tp2 verizon, i'm using newest build 25-3 with gsm network.
- The first thing i meet is when the phone wakeup(orange led) it has signal but very weak(not in winmo with the same place), but when the phone turn into sleep mode and wake up again it show no service.
- The second thing is the battery draining quickly.
I don't know this is a bug or not.
Do you have any advice for me?
Thanks.

##Edit:
- Right now, my phone can receive signal from operator (GSM) when it wake, but when it's going to deep sleep and wake up after that, i noticed that i show "no service" and after few seconds it back to normal.
I guess that i will not receive any call or sms when it's sleep mode.
I will test with my friend and will update soon.
Thanks

Use kernel 1253 to avoid this bug.

For battery draining, make sure the phone is going into deep sleep correctly (solid green LED).

Thanks arrrghhh,
I'm using kernel 1253 now, this but camera is not function :(,
Do you know when this bug is fixed with camera.

Besides, i don't see "H/3G" icon next by signal icon and after setup an APN with GSM network it's not working either.

Well yea that's the tradeoff. I think I'd rather be able to receive calls than use the camera, but pick your poison I guess. There's a really big clocks commit that somehow breaks it, and it hasn't been fixed yet in the newest kernels...

Also, you won't get an H icon without using the testing RIL, which will get merged soon to mainline.

Yeah, you're right. :)
I guess i will ignore the camera for know.
I am facing a new problem, i can't now setting up my APN.
My network is GSM , create new apn with all setting as winmo, check usb tethering
==> error: usb not connected. I cannot browser web as well.
I dont now how to check to see if the issue come from apn setting or a bug of this build.

Thanks

I'm confused by your comment. USB tethering doesn't work, at least not the build-in one.

For the APN to get saved, you have to enter in all the values correctly for your carrier - otherwise the APN will be ignored.

I want to setting up an apn to access internet from my phone by using all the value as Winmo is but no luck. I think the setting is nothing wrong for my carrier. I do not know where the problem come from :(.
Ah, just forget about usb tethering for now.

Thanks

I also have the same issue with the GSM signal getting lost continuously once the screen goes off.

I read the comments above on using another kernel, any direction on the topic how to change it?

Also, is there any chance to use a GSM Android version on the TP2 Sprint version and work for both camera and GSM signal ?

Btw, thanx for this topic its really helping me.

Not at this time. As I stated already, there's a bug in the clocks commit that came in on kernel #1258. It hasn't been fixed since. This predates camera functionality.

Hello All! Great Thread you have here Teradog! I'm an avid member of Howard Forums and have decided to become a member of PPCG since I wish to know as much as possible about my TP2 and what it's capable of and KNOW this is a great community as is HoFo. One thing I have noticed that may be of interest is that if you have your TP2 in XDAndroid and charging it is possible to do a battery pull without losing power. It must be done quickly but this allows for battery swaps and since I own 2 extras it comes in handy(this will not work in WM). I also want to thank arrrghhh for the suggestion of SystemPanel lite as my physical(answer, hang, back and menu) buttons are not functional and it's a bitch to go into app manager>forceclose everytime I get somewhere I can't back out of.

So in the startup.txt there's a rel_path= setting under cmdline - no? If there is no setting, you have to put everything at the root of the SD card - no folders. If you want to put everything in a folder, you need to set the rel_path= setting. For example, I have my Android two folders deep - so my rel_path=Androids/FRX06. Hope this helps.

From what Arrrghhh posted you need everything in the andboot folder not to the root if rel_path=andboot is your startup.txt....thats just how I read it, I may be way off since I'm a noober.

lol, I don't get why my previous post didn't make sense.

If you have everything at the root of the SD, do not use rel_path=. However, if you have everything - say in a folder 'andboot' off the root of the SD - then use rel_path=andboot in your startup.txt.

Hopefully that makes sense...

Hop on IRC if you have a few minutes, I think you're missing something vital. Might need to start over fresh, format the card and redownload etc.

Per post 1.
\Storage Card\ (no rel_path needed in startup.txt)
\Storage Card\andboot (rel_path=andboot)
\Storage Card\bubblegum (rel_path=bubblegum) you can put where you want!

All files need to be put in same place.

You were being clear and i understand the rel_whatever is the name of the folder in the SD where the files are. it just doesn't work. I'll re-format and try again! Thanks again

Re: Simple Guide, 6 Easy Steps (15 min): ANDROID TP2 DL links, 3/25 FRX06, GingerBre

Teredog, what a great thread! I wish I had found this prior to me updating my TP2 to droid! I was able to find most of what's needed on XDA, but I would've saved time and headaches if I saw this first!

I have found 2-3 additional items that have made my install work great! I no longer use Windows Mobile, I'm running FRX06 24-hours/day. I'm nearly bug free, this will save me some $$$ since I'm a Sprint SERO user.

Hey, in addition to this thread I also like your avatar, you're a fan of a great team!

Maybe you have cdma=1 inside your startup.txt ? make that =0 and try again, it worked for me on the gingerbread version.

Another thing, after replacing the kernel like I was suggested now GSM signal is fine but Camera is not working. Also the GPS is crasing the OS and I have to pull out the battery.

Or just remove force_cdma, that's only useful for... CDMA devices!

I'm assuming you mean the suggestion of using kernel 1253? Of course cam doesn't work in that kernel, that kernel predates the cam code...

GPS should work fine, does for me (in Froyo)... I hope you're not trying to use GPS in Gingerbread tho. That would cause GB to crash...
