Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s Sept. 2010
No worries, glad to help, thanked... I still haven't got the tethering down to a science yet, have it working on step V.2. (not 3 as I previously posted), but can't duplicate it!! I'm using another formatted 1GB SD, same build, same tether, same startup.txt, EVERYTHING... spent hours (days) on it & can't get it working again (on any build).
So, I finally gave up & simply copied all the files from my working sound & tether build onto my other 8GB (class 6) that I use with my Windows stuff.. into \andboot directory, and added the relpath statement (bottom of post 1)... works fine. Options (post 1) V. 2 & 3 droid builds use the root directory by default, but I don't like all that mess of files in there... cleaned it up... |

Many of us are NOT moving to another device as his latest (settings selectable!) startmenu replacement with MS OS latest 21681 6.5.x build is giving us 100MB free RAM!!!! WITH Cookie & Sense! With Over Clocking & all this, why buy new... unreal Grab a cheapo 1, 2, or 4gig (under 10 bux) it only takes 10 min... not a weekend! Good luck all thanked |
Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s Sept. 2010
I've been using the Froyo 2.2 on my TP 2 for the past week now. I love it, I'm rather reluctant to use winmo anymore but I have to. It's not ready for prime time daily usage just yet. As someone previously mentioned, if you need to use it for business or lots or for very essential needs then using it 100% of the time is going to be a real challenge. There's still no bluetooth support, the camera doesn't have a driver and though seldom it crashes every now and again. If your a heavy multi-tasker like myself and you don't need to use it for business then by all means you can use this more than 60% of the time. It's just much more seamless and intuitive then winmo. It'll take getting used to but once you do, you won't really want to go back. I am dual booting as I'm sure many folks are doing the same. It's definitely more than just a weekend plaything though. Cheers to the developers you've done a great job!

Maybe something that should be added to the FAQ is that if you want to use Google Voice to dial out, you have to modify your startup.txt set cmdline to include the following:
"north_am_dialing=1" |

Pop out the SIM card and check force cdma in the startup utility or force cdma=1 is in the startup text. |

Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s Oct. 2010
I have couple of Qs:
I have 8BG SD card with some apps installed for WinMO. Can I use same card without reformat to download Android? Otherwise I would lose those apps when I switch to Winmo. I saw .cab file for Froyo from Project Android. DO I only get to install .cab file and I am good to go? Thanks |

That is how mine is set up. All the Android and WinMo stuff is all together. No need to format the card. Be sure when asked, to install Android to the card. Welcome to the Future! |

Okay, I get it. I'm a newbie that is chronologically past his prime. Where do I start to learn this stuff? Do I have to take a bazillion IT classes in linux, A+, etc etc? Is there any easy way to learn the fundamentals? Any and All help will be greatly appreciated

Also, remember that you don't have to learn all aspects of it. Each of the xdandroid devs have specific areas that they really excel at and others they don't bother spending time learning. Pick something specific that interests you and go for it :) |

Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s Oct. 2010
teradog- thanks for putting this together. I am so bored with WinMo so I thought I'd give Android a go. I had a question after reading all your info and then the info posted over at Project Android. They go into it quite a lot, and make a big deal of taking out your SIM, and if you don't because you need it then follow the GSM build. My phone is a Sprint CDMA, but I use it exclusively on a GSM network. So would I use the CDMA build or the GSM?
Thanks! |

Different startup files can have an effect on how droid runs... would like an easy way to take out of the picture. Right now I go into total commander & copy \win\startup directory to windows\startup OR copy \droid\startup directory to \windows\startup... |

The reality.... you're putting to much time & effort & research into it! :>)) I say that with good intent! It really is as easy as disabling any OC you have first, install the cab to an old 1, 2, 4 gig SD card, expand it, use a file manager to double click the haret file. You'll see the text go tiny & scoll a ton of stuff by, pause for a 1/2 min, scroll some more, blank, delay, it's running. Done. Typically at this point I'd say, if you get no network (can't make a call or pull up a web page) then put the SIM in... But, you'll need GSM as you don't have CDMA at all correct? So, you'll need your SIM in.. easy. You may want to look at the GSM forum for TP2's over at XDA if you like to do the research first... If it doesn't work, try another cab! Delete all the crap & start over... you won't hurt the tp2, just do it. Avoid the Blazen at first... You may need to either have the startup file associated with your network OR run the one of the Windows front end GUI's that usually come in the cab for that droid build if it doesn't work... try it, try it again, try again... you could try all the builds DL, expand cab & run each in the time it takes you to read one of these forums.. when you figure out something new, post it, it'll help others... get stuck.. post the question, don't worry about the critics, there's enough good ones around, you'll have it running tonight!! |

Been wanting to for a long time but kept putting it off because grad school has been too busy. Took a study break for just 30 mins and have almost everything the way I want it. Was pretty much quicker than flashing a new ROM. Still have a lot to learn but now that I have it working, I can take the time to work on it and tailor it to the way I like. Thanks for the welcome! Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ¡¯s Oct. 2010
HI All, I have the Droid up and running on my TP2 and am getting most of the bugs worked out but wondering if there is a setting to fix the G sensor to operate correctly. It keeps changing the phone from landscape to portrait but in the wrong direction, like if i hold the phone up it goes landscape...... I found the setting to turn off the sensor but would like to have it work right if possible. Is there something i need to put in the startup.txt file to set it? Im this file XDAndroid 2.2 (rel 1.6).cab to install and launch. It lets you pick your phone, asks if you want it OC'd then creates this startup.txt file.
set ramsize 0x10000000 set ramaddr 0x10000000 set mtype 2292 set KERNEL zImage set initrd initrd.gz set cmdline "acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=650000 lcd.density=240 msmts_calib=0x9f.0x39a.0x35c.0x78 clock-7x00.a11=500 msmvkeyb_toggle=off pmem.extra=1 gsensor_axis=-1,-2,3 force_cdma=1 physkeyboard=rhod210" boot Edit; Found solution after comparing some startup.txt files. Changed "gsensor_axis=-1,-2, 3" to "gsensor_axis=2, 1, 3" Now gsensor works as expected on my DroiDed TP2 :) |

Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s March 2011 Updates
Hi, i got error said: failed to load file\storagecard\zimage
Please help me out |
Re: Simple Guide: ANDROID TP2 CDMA TIPS/FAQ’s March 2011 Updates
It would take much less time to delete it & run steps 1-6 again, follow closely the instructions... Ensure if you run haret to start, you use a startup.txt file for your device. Please try again & see what happens
*edit* You have to be aware... some of the downloads put everything @ the root of your storage card, some & the ones I prefer put them under a directory called andboot/ Look at the startup.txt files in the first post, make sure you have this line "rel_path=andboot" in your startup.txt.. Also, try another build, you may have better luck! |

Question on Windows vs Android screen calibration coordinates
Quote:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH\Calibr ationData is: 509,524 808,845 801,201 222,199 213,846 which I am guessing just based on the physical calibration sequence must be: center top-left bottom-left bottom-right top-right 2. The contents of Rhodium 500 android ts-calibration file is 823,137,169,145,503,506,830,850,172,852 which based on inspecting the number values might be: bottom-left bottom-right center top-left top-right 3. I am assuming that the number pairs are: (a) consistently interpreted by the two operating systems with respect to where they are on the screen, and (b) coordinates which are x,y when the phone is held in portrait orientation 4. It is also interesting to note that the android file has commas between every number, but the Windows Mobile file has a space between each coordinate pair. Can anyone who has read the code validate these observations? Do the five points in each list correspond to exactly the same screen locations points based on their values, or are the values juxtaposed between Windows and Android? Paul |
Re: Simple Guide, 6 Easy Steps (15 min): ANDROID TP2 DL links, 3/25 FRX06, GingerBre

There needs to be at least 256mb free on the card - after moving everything from the build over. In the FAQ it mentions to have at least 480mb free, as the default data.img is 256mb. |
Re: Simple Guide, 6 Easy Steps (15 min): ANDROID TP2 DL links, 3/25 FRX06, GingerBre
Arrrrgh?
Can I please ask for a request of what "utils" you use, be posted on the 1st or second post please? I have tried several battery showing apps, and task managers, some seem to be ok, but 2 days ago, I read (somewhere I cannot find the post) that you were using some app for task manaagment? It goes without saying, you have done MARVELOUS work on these droid threads, sure as heck helped me a lot. So since you also seem to find the best apps, can you at least list them, so I know what to hunt for in market (or elsewhere)? Thanks a huge amount. I love this android on my TP2, but when I try a new build I have to reload all my apps, and without the old one running, I forget what all I need, liked, and what not (I know what I liked isnt your concern)... LOL but a couple 3 or 4 basic needs, like astro, and task manager, etc. thanks. |
