How to Use built in Calendar

Is it possible to use the built in calendar without the gmail calendar?

When I try to add an event, I get the message "You have no calendars".

I have set up the holiday calendar and a personal calendar in gmail, but sill on the built in calendar I get the message.

Does anyone know how to use the built in calendar?

Figured it out. Reinstalled and added gmail account first.
