Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
Coming from someone in the same industry (although I'm primarily video, still some audio experience) I can tell you there is some sense to Joshszman09's claim. I'm sure he explained a bit more than most newcomers will understand, but the point is, our phone is unique specifically BECAUSE of that noise cancellation system in it (as I understand it, 2 microphones and 2 speakers in addition to the headset piece). Now that being said, I can't pretend to speculate that I know exactly what kind of processing/filters they have implemented, but it would make perfect sense that it would at least need to be setup in its "basic" setup (that is, without noise canceling to provide simple sound output) or be provided different parameters to activate the noise canceling processing.
Unfortunately, I can't pretend to know the programming aspects of activating any of that. I'm pretty good with computers, and Linux, but unfortunately my programming skills are lacking :\ I'll continue being people's guinea pig though for any new tests that need to be done, and provide the best feedback I know how. If I can be of any other kind of assistance developers, please let me know! |
Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
It is true that there is a bunch of hardware involved in the noise canceling system. Its probably not setup correctly ye. The thing is that we know there is no sound getting that far.
[ACL]. Check the logs and debug my program! I think something could happen :-) |

Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
I don't think this is a avenue worth pursuing (noise cancellation). typically this will be a hardware or otherwise very low-level function.

I'm also wondering if there is a way to direct sound past the noise-canceling, being that it is an integrated part of the system and not something that you physically plug in. Either way, I wish you guys the best of luck on this one. And everything you guys have done and are still doing thus far is very much appreciated. |
Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
I'm not sure if anyone has looked into this but it seems that if I boot up Mr. X's Titanium Lite rom with anything plugged into the headphone jack then I will not get any sound until the phone is soft reset. If you have already known about or tried that route sorry for wasting your time. I just didn't feel like rereading all the posts to see if the android sound problem might be related to whatever is causing the custom rom problem. I haven't tried it with any other roms but would just like to know if it is just the one rom or possibly something more common. Thanks for everyone's hard work and dedication to this android sound issue.

Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
Actually, the first time I read that it sounded as if he was trying to call attention to that issue thinking the 2 might be related, and the solution to the rom issue may be somewhat similar to the issue we face with android (or at least, both issues resulting in the same symptoms, assuming our device is thinking something is plugged into the headphone/set jack). If that is the case, the solution for one may shed light onto our issue as well. Again, I'm no rom or linux dev, just good with computers and linux. Trying to offer any help/ideas at this point...

Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
Lets talk about the 3.5 mm headphone jack for a minute. I personally have a Tilt 2, which does not have the 3.5 mm headphone jack, compared to the the Verizon and Sprint TP2. I remember reading somewhere either on the thread or xda, that xdandroid seems to be pushing audio to the 3.5 jacks, but there is no output from any appliance plugged into it. Question, Has anyone tired to use the Tilt 2's usb to headphone adapter to see if audio is present? I can't seem to find mine atm. Just a thought....

Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
First off I would like to thank everyone who is working to give us sound on the Rhodium. I have a vzw Rhod500 and I also have the same audio problem with the stock vzw rom that was released in June. Here is what happened to me. oh btw I'm using BLAZIN froyo released 8/18/2010 not sure which kernal image he's using on that. maybe the August 2nd release. Anyway
I booted android and plugged in my 3.5mm headphones no auido. Then I shut down android and returned to wm and tried to play some music and guess what? no audio. I had to unplug headset and reset the device. Then I had audio again. Went into my media player to play some music and I had sound plugged in headset and still had sound. While the music was playing I started android the music stopped as soon as it launched and then while the os was loading I heard a little pop in my headset. Started android again and tried to play music nothing. Unplugged headset and shutdown android. WM loaded and sound works. I don't know if that will help anyone but there you have it. If I have headset plugged in while wm boots then there is no audio. I bet this affects all the ROMs. Maybe someone with more knowledge should give HTC support a call and see if they can get any info from them which might help figure things out. I for one can't wait for sound on android I hope one of you guys cracks it soon. Keep up the good work. Something else I noticed there is a delay between the time you plug in the head set and music changes from external speaker to headset. |

SIDE NOTE: MUCH PROPS to those of you who are working endlessly to resolve this issue. Don't give up. The answer has got to come soon. I will likely have my Evo 4g by the time it does but I will still be keeping up with the progress & rooting for a fully functional Android on my long time friend, the Rhodium ; -) |

Not that i dont appreciate the support.. but a lot of these posts dont make any sense.
I'd like to keep this thread going for Dev as much as possible. Once we begin drifting away its just going to balloon up into a mess that no one will want to read. I think that headphone theory has been beaten to death already .. |

hey [ACL]
i was helping a friend install android on his HTC HD2 and i saw that they require to run an exe file prior to booting haret in order to get sound working, not sure if you have come across it or seen it before, here's the file if you wana look at it. i ran it on my tp2 before haret but sadly no sound :( |

Jonpry: fixed rpc on the nand version.. i looked into snd.c for the calls you mentioned to enable incall sound Looks like we already make the calls for the device and volume.
They show no errors. Any other ideas? we are tracing the dlls down but anything that comes to mind might help.. |

If audio worked through the headphone jack, there would be a LOT more discussion on that topic, not to mention we'd very likely be much closer to making this work. But alas, if you read the first post on this thread you will see that the problem is clearly explained as getting the sound processor to respond to any commands at all. That is all. |

I just noticed yesterday that I was listening to music on the WinMo side with my USB headset, and booted into Froyo a couple of things happened. As Android is coming up I could hear a brief (1 second) clicking on the headset. I could make a phone call and I would get the audio into the headset, but the person on the other end could not hear me. If I unplugged my headset while in the call, the handset speaker turned on and I could hear the other party, but the other party still could not hear me (maybe the microphone had been turned off when the USB headset is plugged in?) When I stopped the call, plugging in and unplugging the USB headset gave me a "click" on the headset. I don't know if this means anything at all, I'm just reporting an experience that I don't recall seeing in the forum before. The part that has me baffled is the fact that the microphone was disabled for both the headset and the handset. Anyway, I'll be happy to do any other testing that anyone needs. By the way my phone is a Rhod400 on US Cellular. |

Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
I am not too great when it comes to builds like this, but do you think it would be possible to only boot down most of the WinMo instead of all of it? If you can do that, you can shut down everything but what makes the sound work in Winmo, and carry that over to the android build. Idk, just my 2 sense. Think that may be possible?
|
Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.

I don't think that's fundamentally even possible, as WinMo and Android use TOTALLY different kernels. |
Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
I think this thread has really taken a turn for the worst. However, a few people have had some good ideas, or offered some good help. Most of all I think this thread has been a beacon for the community. Bringing new people into the community. And as such the need for this thread has finally come to an end. More on that in some soon to be released builds. So the rest of you can finally give it a rest.

Re: Why sound isn't working on the TP2.
Not being a dev myself I been watching more than posting.
I love my Rhodium. I have a ways to go on this one before I am about to jump to a new device. Sound is a big thing. But I also feel accurate power management is my biggest concern. With that I'd be happy to make the jump and NAND test boot and anything else that I can say won't brick the device. |

Yes, enabling sound is a HUGE milestone, and development will likely snowball from this point out, but the HD2 porting is also in full swing, and might already be further along than we are! Remember, the Rhodium port still lacks support for camera, bt, power management, and while sound is enabled it STILL isn't finished (speaker stays initialized when not in use, volume control doesn't work yet, etc... its enabled, which was the hurdle up until now). I haven't been following the HD2 porting lately, however last I checked they already had sound and there's a good chance it is more complete than the Rhodium... jsut sayin |
