Gps

It looks like there's (very preliminary) GPS support in the latest rootfs, thanks to phh and jonpry. AGPS support is not there yet, so it might take anywhere from 3-20 minutes to get a signal lock.

Replace the rootfs.img in your andboot folder with the linked version. You might also need to update to the newest kernel from Glemsom's site.

I haven't tried it yet, so I can't tell you much.

Re: Gps

The funny thing is that I'm getting cell-tower location now, but it's never worked in the past. WiFi is off, and I'm getting a 300 meter location accuracy in Google Maps.

Haven't been able to test actual GPS yet since I'm stuck in a high-rise in downtown Houston.

Re: Gps

I'm not sure that's technically AGPS. Cell-tower triangulation is a method of finding location; AGPS is something that helps actual GPS satellites lock in faster.

(I might be wrong about that, but I think it's the case.)

No, I think you're right. That's my understanding as well. I reworded my post a minute ago.

I can't reproduce the cell-location now though either. Maybe WiFi was powered on for some reason (although it's not showing that it's enabled now). Can anyone else get cell-location on a Rhod?

Re: Gps

GPS is working!! Yay! The Endomondo running application shows me where I'm at on the map and it says GPS okay (can't run with it inside of an office, though I should in rejoicement!). Google Maps Navigation hangs, but I might have to try that out in my vehicle later.

Re: Gps

Sounds great. : ) Glad to see there's still progress. Was a bit of a downer after reading that "is it worth waiting for" thread.

Re: Gps

I was able to get my gps to work by take this file and extracting the file
1. Download the latest rootfs.
2. Extract the lastest rootfs and rename it to (rootfs)
3. Find the andboot folder on your storage card.
4. Replace the rootfs file on your storage card with the new one you downloading from the web.
5. Run android and you are finished.

Now my gps works and I am happy!!!
