Please for the love of God, do we really need to have ads built into the Android development?? When I try to choose a widget, there is an ad on the bottom. How do I remove them?

EDIT: Sorry about the thread title, but seriously, ads are annoying!

Ask the developers of the application you're using. It has nothing to do with the port. Ads are on real Android devices. Ads are on the iPhone. Don't expect them to go away. Ever.

There is an app called ad free in the marketplace that updates the hosts file. I think XDA has an even more updated hosts file but android needs to be rooted

That's so aweful. Now we get popups on our cell phones? Really? It's come to this? Well, I'm glad I'm part of a modding community where this type of crap can be taken care of.

I believe because of the ads, developers are able to release their apps for free.....So they do have a purpose.

Exactly. I haven't noticed anything that I couldn't easily ignore. This is why the Android Market has the highest percentage of free apps. Approximately 61% of the 38,000 apps available are free, and most have a premium version for $1-2 dollars that have no ads.

I don't think any ads are cooked into the development itself, but they are in the apps that have been bundled.

Edit: and with this post I just hit n00b status... kinda liked lurker better but I guess I am moving up in the world

Seriously! I can't believe these developers are trying to make money! We should be able to get any software for free. I'm glad the modding community are doing this on their own time and never asking for donations. That's what its all about right?

Really? That's what you read from my post? That I want free software and don't support developers? That the modding community is obligated to provide a free service for me? Don't be a jerk. I fully support developers and most certainly support the true modding community. And your assumptions that I don't are premature.

It's the advertisements on our cell phones I have a problem with. I would prefer to have an ad free cell phone. I'm the type of person that will pay for a shirt that doesn't have any branding on it. Which also relates to my preference of paying for software that I don't have to have a popup on my frickin cell phone. That is very annoying to me. Some people don't mind, some do. To me, it's clutter, a waste of space, and I have never clicked on a banner ad (cell phone or computer). I prefer a clean, organized, uncluttered look. If we're talking about supporting software developers, I support them, but not enough to want popups on my phone. In anycase, I'll be looking into removing/blocking the ads from my cell phone.If the developers want to provide free software, great. If they want to charge, that's fine too. But don't clutter up my phone with junk I don't want.
