It was with the updated kernel and rootfs that was causing it, all packages installed exactly as described on the topic page. I'm going to try to mix and match some of the components with a previous build of android that worked (Albeit with a lot of Force Closes I was constantly getting) and see if those go away but act more stable.

I went back to a previous zImage and initrd with the newer Modules and now it's much more stable and faster. Something about the newer items seemed to trigger lockups and freezes. With a newer modules, and an older zImage and initrd, I'm getting fewer Force Closes after a sufficient amount of time waiting for things to load, and it's not locking up as much.
