Re: Android/Linux for CDMA Touch Pro 2 Rhodium Updated 4-20-2010

Hmmm....not sure if it has been discussed, but has anyone had trouble with the accelerometer calibration? It seems to be able to read the sensor data, but it fails to calibrate.

Never tried calibrating....but as far as accelerometer goes...is there a way to fix how the home screen boots in landscape initially? it doesnt flip to portrait the first time either unless i slide open/close the tp2...

what REALLY bugs me though is that after several texts or maybe its after a couple hours...sms won't send (discovered today that i can still receive sms when this happens) until i reboot android.
i made a post but it seems like no one knows anything about this?

I dont think its that they dont know but if you read through these threads about Android on TP2 you will probably see that is was already adressed or something was said about it. Sometimes to avoid conflict people wont respond at all and just hope that you look a little harder for the answer.. Most people do exactly what you did ... Reboot Android. This whole thing is a work in progress so often times the developers that are working on this may not necessarily be working on the problem you are having but rather another BIGGER problem that EVERYONE is having. As far as the phone rebooting in landscape thats also a known problem but MAY not be as important as getting sound or bluetooth working. As far as that issue goes you can either press the back button hard key on the bottom of your TP2 or you can open and close the hardkey board and they both will switch your phone to portrait. I hope I have helped. Good luck in your searches.

Wow, this port is way better than expected. I think I'll stick with Mighty/Sense 2.5 for everyday use, but this will be fun to play with this weekend.

Re: Android/Linux for CDMA Touch Pro 2 Rhodium Updated 4-20-2010

I haven't said much since I got the auto download program to update XAndroid and I must say that I love the progress. We have more than half of what we asked for from the gate.

Sure new devices are coming out that are faster, bigger and more expensive, plus they have the OS we are attempting to piece together. Those who will switch good for you, those who don't good for you.

I would love to have a play phone with Android on it, especially the HTC Evo, but Sprint would make me change my service plan which is ridiculous (SERO 1250 + 3 any numbers, with Google Voice for under $50). If it was windows mobile like T-Mobile I would jump on it because sprint wouldn't care.

I look at it this way with my windows mobile I can do what the other OS do, can they. I can clone myself to look like them, I can even run their OS on my OS, I can... do so many things and its all on one single phone, can they? Look at the IPAD a giant Ipod touch compared to the HP Slate which is a IPAD size computer. So sure the IPAD is fun, but not practical for much more than it was designed for (entertainment), the Slate on the other hand can be used for entertainment, business, education, etc.

So the choice is on each of us. Keep up the development please, so we all can enjoy it.

A number of sources are reporting that HP has killed the Slate project. So I guess the iPad is better than nothing (not that I would buy an iPad).

Has anyone else had problems with SMS after a while? The problem is that the message seems to be sending forever, and I'm sure this isn't a problem with my reception; I had 3G and full bars. This has happened to me only once this morning, but someone else has also been having this issue. Looking around for a fix to this, please help if you can. Also, if you do find a resolution, you should post it in the FAQs for anyone else

A month or two ago I read that the Slate would at least be delayed further because, according to a quote from a HP rep, "the slate is not able to be as responsive as the iPad." This isn't surprising. I hate apple's products because of their artificially imposed software limitations, but I have to say they have their priorities right when it comes to the responsiveness of the user experience. Anything that the user interacts with or sees animate should be top priority and low overhead. Apple gets this, while Windows Mobile is still, after so many years, a terribly laggy and pathetic user experience. And it is entirely a software problem, not hardware. Just look at how snappy Android is on TP2 vs any Windows Mobile rom. On windows, if I'm in Opera Mobile and I hit END to go back to the today screen, if a web page is currently loading it could take up to 10 seconds for the transition (PIE is worse) and once the today screen is visible it's not very responsive. On the other hand, Android on the same device will transition to the home screen almost instantly regardless of what is going on in the browser.

I believe that the HP Slate has been delayed because of their acquisition of Palm. They want to put WebOS on that baby. And oh man, that would be sweet.
