Yeah, I wonder if they live in an area where USCC has Android testing going on and have something setup differently with data on the towers? If that is the case then magically we should start have 3G start working.

Too bad we don't have someone on the inside that knows more about the details who is willing to share some info.

Re: Android running on US Cellular data service

Internet Settings
As long as Internet settings are set correctly in "Settings/Wireless controls/Mobile networks/APNs" Togga will connect and Internet access will work. However, following kernel parameters also need to be provided in order to get automatic connect/reconnect without using Togga.
To find settings for your carrier, visit the carrier network settings page.
[edit] ppp.apn

The APN used to connect to the network (when dialing #777)
[edit] ppp.username

The username used to connect to the network (when dialing #777)
[edit] ppp.password

The password used to connect to the network (when dialing #777)
[edit] ppp.nostart

If ppp.nostart=1, the connection will not automatically connect, and Modem must be used to connect to the Internet

I tried this with no luck by adding in the following items with and without nostart in my cmd line..

set cmdline "rel_path=Android ppp.apn=internet ppp.username=641425xxxx@uscc.net ppp.password=641425xxxx msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 lcd.density=240 htc_hw.force_cdma=1 physkeyboard=rhod400"

I have tried to edit/add APN settings as well.

I have a verizon Titan and a USCC Titan that I will compare the EPST setting (##778 settings. I have flashed ROMs on these before and the data has been an issue until changes were made. I do remember that USCC had certain changes that needed to be changed and Verizon had some of the same, but some different changes to get it to work after unlocking and flashing the radio. What I am looking for is differences in how USCC and VZW handle their data in the WinMo setting.

I think one of the differences was in the Security settings (while in edit mode only) that the HDR AN AUTH User ID and HDR AN AUTH Password had to be HexESN#@uscc.net and HexESN# respectively for USCC. I see this on my TP2 to be the same as on the PPC6800 and the Touch Pro.

Does anyone know how to provide Android with this information in the cmdline or otherwise? I have been looking, but no luck yet.

Re: Android running on US Cellular data service

Also, I think the Home SID is required for data to work correctly.

Re: Android running on US Cellular data service

OK, I checked settings on a VZW Titan, Sprint Vogue and USCC 6800, TP & TP2.

VZW
uses the phone number @ for HDR AN AUTH User ID
uses the phone number @ for PPP

Sprint
uses the hex ESN @ for HDR AN AUTH User ID
PPP info is blank

USCC
uses the hex ESN @ for HDR AN AUTH User ID and HDR AN AUTH password is hex ESN
uses the phone number @ for PPP

So, if programming has been setup so that if VZW then use... else if Sprint then use... else use generic. This is way over simplified to provide a possilbe reason for why USCC data is not working.

MrPippy, if you are still helping with the USCC data issue, I would be glad to assist and test.

EVDO is a 3G technology with 3G being more generic term that works for CDMA and GSM phones. Just like LTE and WiMAX are both 4G technologies.
