Hey, those of you on US Cellular (and possible MetroPCS) there is a solution to get data working.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=113441

See Page 8 (post #79 by eval-) and Page 9 (post #86 by me for an alternate method less technical, but more steps)

Thanks eval- and others who provided this solution. It is my understanding that the rootfs.img file will be updated down the road so we will not need jump through the hoops too much longer.

PS very happy to see this thread reopened. =D>

Just extract and copy it over your existing. This will preserve your data for CDMA and give you the latest changes to the rootfs.img. Make sure you are on the current kernel.

Enjoy!

I should note, use at your own risk, stinebd nor I are responsible for any data charges you may incur with your provider. Hopefully you are just seen as phone traffic, but you have been warned!

I love the fact that I go away for the weekend, and THIS AMAZING progress item pops up. Way to go!!

I am looking forward to checking this out over the next couple of days. One quick q: Is it tether over wi-fi only, or does it also include support for tether over usb (i.e., so that one can use phone as modem and have direct connection between computer and internet (and ip address assigned directly to computer from carrier))?

Thanks again, and great work.

I had understood that the original Mr.Pippy fix to the rootfs.img file permitted data over CDMA only (and NOT both CDMA and GSM). Two questions:

1. Is my understanding correct?
2. Does this latest rootfs.img file permit data over BOTH CDMA AND GSM (assuming SIM is in)? Or, CDMA only?

CDMA only. That is why in order for this to work no sim card can be inserted.

Well, its tether over Wi-fi.

You would need to use an app as well.

I need to replace my data.img file but can't seem to find a download with it. Seems like all the new downloads are missing it. Anybody know where I can download?

This is your "custom" file, when android boots it creates this file and puts it in the root folder along with the zimage, etc.
You will not find this file with any builds!

I was thinking about trying to load Android on my Sprint TP2. Is there any chance that it can brick the phone? I am assuming the chance isn't that high because it is running through WinMo?

Also, if I do install it, will I need to remove the SIM card or is that workaround just for USCellular people?

Thanks and sorry for my noob questions... ;)

Slim to none chance on bricking the phone. Worst I heard was someone not following instructions and having to hard reset via bootloader.

You do need to remove the sim card.
