Been so busy I haven't had a chance to try this out. Now that FRX05 is super stable on my TP2, gonna give this a spin tonight.

Re: [BUILD] **Complete GingerBread Bundle!!** GBX0A - Alpha! Camera!
In case anyone cares, GBX0A has been running for 95 hours straight. Cellular is on but no service, however Wifi connectivity is active. Only problem is Wifi drops out every now and then requiring me to toggle it off and on. I'm not using it as my primary phone, but emails, google talk, weather, etc are updating and doing their thing.
As others have speculated, with all the versions (FRX05, etc), the stability problems seem to be related to the RIL. |

I'm currently still on frx05 but I'm experimenting with something new. I converted the loop device mounts for system.ext2 and data.img to a native ext2 mount on my sd card; I partitioned my Sd card into 3 partitions (one fat32 and 2 ext2's) in order to do so. Huh, you ask. Yeah, this is my own experiment so I won't go into details as it's a little complicated for the average user. Bottom line, I asked nate and he said it's supposed to have slightly better performance, in terms of the linux kernel using the ext2 partition for better paging as opposed to a loop device. So far so good, a day without any reboots or SOD. Will let it run over the weekend and let you guys know. Yeah, this requires you to pick up some real "Linux" hacking skills. You'll have to install Ubuntu or some other Linux distro and use fdisk to repartition your SD card into the different partitions I was talking about. Nate showed my how to remap the cache directory to another EXT2 partition to allow the SD card to wear out more evenly.

Also, I don't think this would require Linux - there's tools for Windows that allow you to partition the SD in all sorts of file systems. It's just easier with Linux because a) the tools are built into the system and b) Windows won't be able to read those newly created partitions anyways, without other 3rd party tools ![]() Not to take any wind out of your sails, but I wouldn't consider that Linux hacking skills ![]() ![]() Quote:
In theory it should be a little quicker as well - it might not be significant enough to even be noticeable to the end user. If there's some demand for it, ndno (or me) can certainly make a how-to do this. The rootfs is already configured to handle it, so AFAIK you just have to setup the partitions and drop the data in - I'm not really sure how much repointing is involved TBH. |
