Haven't been running new kernel very long but so far it is doing very well. The button lights are working great. I'll let you know how things are going after some more time passes. Thanks.

sweet jeebus, i love this new test kernel, so far no issues at all, trying to run down the battery and see how it acts.

thanks arrrghhh!

ndno 03-30-2011 08:00 PM

Been using for a few hrs; working great! Wake is very good. I had one restart back to android but it's most likely due to the cherry pie neopeek build I'm using. Ffkip911 recommended it to me and I've been running it for a couple days; it's very fast and snappy; it's by the developer midnight over at neopeek.com. I love the black theme used in cherry pie.

Uh oh...spoke to soon??

New kernel was running well...went to a soccer game, came back & put on charger. After dinner, everything was running super slowly. Touch screen required my to hold things down for several seconds before processing touches. Just rebooted to WinMo, going back in!

One thing I noticed was LED was solid green right before I put it on the charger, and it stayed green while charging (I remember it going orange when on charger before.)

Re: [TESTING] Updated 3/30/11 New Kernel - Several new fixes!!!

update: After a couple hours of use this thing is working great. Only little problem i would say is that it does slow down the phone just for a couple of min.

Re: [TESTING] Updated 3/30/11 New Kernel - Several new fixes!!!

So far so good. My end button does not light up the front lights. Others work fine. Using standard Rootfs.

Spoke too soon. Got the lag of death and had to pull the battery.

Re: [TESTING] Updated 3/30/11 New Kernel - Several new fixes!!!

ran the battery down to under 20%, charged to full fine, no issues - took a few calls, sent plenty of texts (had to, promoting a show set for tomorrow), and messed around on facebook, foursquare, etc. - charged to full before i crashed at about 11:00pm, then took it off the charger and set my alarm...

...slept fine all night (7 hours), alarm worked fine, still had a charge of 84% (turned data and GPS off at night) ... been messing with it all day and haven't had a single issue with this 1293 kernel. also running the last FRX05 package, completely stable - haven't had to blow out the data.img in over a week.

Got the LOD again today. This time I got it about 30 mins after booting. Gonna checklist my apps, and start from scratch (fresh image, no apps, adding one at a time).

Does anyone have any input on apps that may cause LOD with other kernels?

Weird... I notice lag on boot, but that's normal. Sometimes it seems to take exceptionally long for the lag to disappear after boot, but once it does I don't think it's come back for me...

Well, I have yet another new kernel on deck folks. Just some minor brushups here and there, checkout the first post!

Stuffed this kernel into my current build but I keep getting complete freezes randomly (using programs or not). Screen remains lit until I yank the battery. Will try with a clean slate tonight. Otherwise when it did work, it worked great!

Can't say that the build you're running is supported in any way shape or form...

If you want to provide some useful feedback, test on FRX06 ;).

Hmmm... not having good luck with the 3/31 test kernel. My TP2 got super sluggish... button presses respond 30 seconds later. Not sure if this is related to my setup but I went back to the 3/30 test kernel and all is well again.

I assume you still have FRX06 on your SD? Try it out with that...

I've been running this kernel since just before I released it, and it has been a dream.

Hey arrrghhh... you told me to keep you inform about the signal lost when wake up problem... and test the latest kernel post here, the problem persist.. But.. test the frx06 build with the new kernel and the zImage form kernel 1253, and voila! no problem! camara doesnt work but no problems of losing signal... so.. the problem is the zImage.. dont know why and dont know how.. but.. there is the problem... hope it help to find a solution or something for that problem man.. thx

Yes, I know that's the problem.

So is 1253 the first kernel that you don't experience this problem in? Have you tried all the other kernels leading up to 1276 and 1253 is the first one that works?

If so, that's consistent with reports. Please post a dmesg under bug 120 using kernel 1276 of the failure. Thanks.

Yeah, sorry about that; it seems to be related to the way I have my SD card set up with an ext2 partition and the Huawei Cherry Pie setup. FRX06 works fine. Gonna redo all SD card and remove all the partitions and start from scratch again.

No man... the 1253 has been just the only perfect working kernel for me... everything over the 1253 gave me signal problems... and an update... the 3/31/11 kernel works great with 1253 zImage but no cam and i just notice NO WIFI... gives some kind of error... but all the kernels before 1253 worked great for me.. and the 1253 is perfect...

Counterfeit 04-01-2011 08:39 AM

I believe if the zImage/kernel doesn't match up then there will be Wifi problems. Feel free to correct that. Will try new kernel today, thanks.

As Counterfeit said, you can't mix and match kernel (zImage) & modules - it'll just cause wifi errors lol.

As for the bug, I spoke with WisTilt2 and he's baffled. He has a couple of things - there's a different RIL he wants you to try, and if it doesn't work he'd like to get some radio logs from you. Hop on to IRC, we can talk about it if you want.

With a fresh install of frx06 and this new test kernel, my phone is as fast as it has ever been. Not a single system issue. The gps shows me in the ocean, but we all know about that.

Yeah I had this problem with huawei before :) after an aweful lot of trouble I finally figured how to fix it . . . . .when using thse kernals on neopeek builds after 1st boot rename modules-----, to just 'modules' so that it isn't found. After this the kernal works identically on huawei as it does in FRX06

But I reccomended keeping FRX06 on sd for testing porposes :)

There's a fix for the GPS bug.

See Entropy's thread - the fix is userland, and you can bind mount that file to the system image. Worked great for me!

Wow, really? Arrrghhh, I'm pretty sure there are important modules that need to get loaded with the kernel in modules*.tar.gz for specific devices to work, correct? jandyman, your method may prevent the sluggish problem but it'll break other stuff like devices that need the modules to be loaded before they can function properly. I really like Huawei Cherry Pie build but it seems to be not that too stable (constant reboots to Android); I can use the camera but the darn build won't save the pictures anywhere; the black theme is awesome and the speed is awesome also, I was running at stock speed and constantly getting 540-570 on quadrant (yep, no OC); I may have to abandon it due to stability issues. Gonna fix my SD and see if Cherry Pie runs better without all the aforementioned problems; otherwise, it's back to old reliable FRX06.

Is FRX06 that much slower on benchmarks?

Anyhoo, the modules are mainly used for wifi - not much else breaks if you remove the modules. At least not much else that should be noticeable to the end-user.

I can "tell" a difference when using FRX06 against Cherry Pie if not OCing. I can run Cherry Pie without OCing and it will be just as smooth as FRX06 OCing at 650Mhz+. On the benchmark (quadrant), Cherry Pie is around 40-50 points better when both are running at stock speed. Not a big difference. As you mentioned before, it's most likely not using the latest HD graphics implementation as FRX06 is; I believe tiad8's Froyo X builds were like Cherry Pie and hence seem to be a little faster in response and slightly more smooth. But stability is a big concern with those builds and Cherry Pie so I'm going back to FRX06 :) Was just trying different builds.

Re: [TESTING] Updated 3/31/11 New Kernel - Portrait mode on boot!

I installed FRX06 on a fresh SD and changed to this newest kernel... It's teriffic so far! Biggest issue I've noticed... in a call if you use the dial pad the sound gets staticy for the duration of the call. Battery seems to die pretty quickly. Also... and I think this applies to all current kernels but I haven't read anyone making a note of it, other than turning it on, the screen only wakes up on incomming phone calls... not on sms or calendar alerts. Nothing new... but I thought worthy of pointing out as a lot of work is being done on screen waking... BIG THANKS TO ALL THE DEVELOPERS WORKING ON THIS!!!

Counterfeit 04-02-2011 12:55 AM

When I'm in landscape mode and I press one of the four hard keys they flash quickly about four times. The end key does not cause them to flash. When I slide my keyboard back they all light up solid and in portrait mode work perfectly, sans end key.

Re: [TESTING] Updated 3/31/11 New Kernel - Portrait mode on boot!

Been running the 3/11/11 kernel now since release and no new issues, with improvements in the others. Still getting the stuck key, can't tell if it's much better, maybe a little, but it's no biggee. I've noticed the last couple occasionally stop typing with the hard kb and I need to close it and reopen it to type again, nothing else seems to work. Loving the new lights too. Getting fewer and fewer failed wakes, had another this morning even using Highlandsun's latest RIL, but they are clearly getting fewer and farther between.

Edit: And hopefully I don't curse myself, but haven't had a reboot since 3/30 kernel!
