Question Rooting process for non-rooted devices.

I personally do NOT own a android device at the moment. But would like to see the spreading of wealth of information for Android development.....including rooting process. So if anyone has any information to share, please feel free to post! All I know is you find a exploit for they kernel (if I'm not mistaken & if I am feel free to correct me) and attempt to use against your device. I also know it takes having the Android SDK installed in order to use the Android Debug Bridge.

Re: Rooting process for non-rooted devices.

Well I know there is a thread over on XDA that walks through rooting a non-sprint CDMA Hero, but it's more complicated than the ones for sprint for some reason and seems a little more risky. Mainly because there's no stock RUU for other carriers to flash back to once they have rooted the device. That's why I haven't done it yet. I'd rather wait till the process is safer and easier like it is for Sprint users. I'm hoping that's soon though!

Re: Rooting process for non-rooted devices.

For the Droid it's pretty straight forward. You simply run an an 'update.zip' file that is the same as the 2.0.1 update only with a few extra treats. To unroot you run the original 2.0.1 update.

Re: Rooting process for non-rooted devices.

I have put together a very easy copy&paste for rooting CDMA SPRINT HERO. As stated before you while need android-sdk on your computer to push files to your phone. There's two files you will need.(asroot2 and recovery image.) both at bottom of post.Open the .zip asroot2 and copy the file inside to the tools folder of android-sdk.Also open recovery .zip and put the recovery image inside the tools folder of android-sdk.Now plug phone into computer with usb debugging on.(menu+settings+applications+development). Now on the computer open command prompt and follow the copy&paste.
**Important....YOU do have to change the sdk location to where it's located at on your computer..**(easy way to find sdk location is open android-sdk and the top it says sdk location.Should be something like c:windows-android-sdk or along the lines of that.)
If you have any problems feel free to pm me.
Attached Files
File Type: zip asroot2.zip (44.5 KB, 45 views) Click for barcode!
File Type: zip recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img.zip (3.19 MB, 36 views) Click for barcode!
File Type: zip copy&paste root process.zip (839 Bytes, 37 views) Click for barcode!

Re: Rooting process for non-rooted devices.

i know there is root for Eris, but im waiting for the devs to either find a way to downgrade the leaks to 1.5 so we can root or a way to just upgrade the leaks to the roots

Re: Rooting process for non-rooted devices.

Just an update for non-sprint Hero owners. The rooting process for other carriers has gotten much easier since the 2.1 updates. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581869
