Overview:
Hexogen is a text input system, it is a natural substitute for standard touchscreen keyboard. It’s major advantage is that a whole message can be created with one sliding touch. The system analyses pointer moves through a hexagon on the screen. When two hexagon faces are consecutively crossed, a new character is generated. To be specific, one character corresponds to a certain ordered pair of faces.

First six faces and respective second six faces give 36 possible combinations. Uppercase characters are generated by a loop-shaped move between the first and the second crossings.

The basic operating mode assumes a start of pointer motion from the outer area of the hexagon. In addition, the system has an alternative mode where motion starts from the inner area. This provides for further 36 combinations, which means further 36 characters. The modes are switched by selection of an area.

All what is needed for text creation is just to slide over the screen. It is similar to ordinary writing but more efficient. Space also has a corresponding pair of faces, so it is not necessary to break contact to write new words.
