Remote desktop for android [Other way around, phone on pc]
Anyone remember Soti Pocket Controller? Was looking for a way I can view my phone on my pc like that. Used to do that all the time with my windows mobile phone... You guys rock if you find something, if not, well... Lets blame XDA.

Re: Remote desktop for android [Other way around, phone on pc]
Here's something I found on a different site... and I'm using it to this day. Works fine for me albeit a little laggy...
daveedem A buddy and I were looking for an app similar to MyMobiler for WM to control the phone while tethered. There isn't much out there but what we did find was an app called ScreenCast. This is nothing new, but does require root if you want to be able to use the mouse and keyboard to control the phone, otherwise all you get is the display, and you would still have to type on the phone or use a Bluetooth keyboard or something. Well I am not fully rooted, sometime I plan on it, but until then, I am using Unrevoked. It is nice if you don't want to do a full root but want Superuser permissions. Otherwise doing a Full Root would suit better if you plan on doing more. This Howto will only cover Unrevoked, if you are already rooted you can skip this part! It will/should work with either from what I can tell. I will attempt to write the directions how to do this from memory heh, and also having a good friend verify it for me. If something doesn't work as stated, let me know and I will update it. Good Luck! Thanks goto the developer of ScreenCast, here's his XDA Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557717 And here is the App's webpage: http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/ As well as to m y buddies neilswolf and georgek for helping me proof it! Now for the Instructions! Download and install JRE 6. Download and install the current HTC Sync if you haven't already, it will let the ADB Interface work for your phone when plugged into the computer. You don't have to actually sync, just go in charging mode is all I do. We mainly need this for the ADB Drivers. Download the current AndroidSDK, and extract it. I recommend moving and renaming it to C:\AndroidSDK, but wherever you can find it. Current AndroidSDK, doesn't have to be installed, but we will need to run apps that get extracted in the tools folder Download the current ScreenCast app and save it on your computer someplace, we will use it to connect to phone later. Download the latest Unrevoked APK and transfer to the phone or download straight to the phone. Use a file manager like Astro or Estrongs to install the APK. Now connect the phone up to your PC via USB. Going into Charging mode should be fine. Open up a command prompt and change into AndroidSDK/tools, or wherever you extracted and renamed to. To verify it sees the phone type: adb devices It should spit out something like: adb server is out of date. killing... * daemon started successfully * List of devices attached HTXXXXXXXXXX device As long as you see your Device there, you are good, if not you may need to change the USB Connection mode to HTC Sync the first time. And try again. Once you see your device we can shell into it by typing: adb shell and press Enter, it should return with a $ prompt. From here I want you to launch the Unrevoked App on your phone while it is plugged in. And click the START button till it shows the rooted popup briefly. It might also ask you to allow superuser permissions, make sure that the always allow is checked and tap the Allow Button. Back on the shell you opened type: su and press Enter, on the phone it again should prompt you to allow superuser permissions for this app. You want to again make sure always allow is checked and tap the Allow Button. It will probably time out in the shell saying permission denied during this time, if so just type su again and press Enter. This time it should return with a # prompt. Next we change permission to allow writing to a directory. This will allow the keyboard and mouse to function when remote controlling the phone. Type: chmod 777 /data/dalvik-cache Once this is done you can run the ScreenCast App by double clicking on the androidscreencast.jnlp that you downloaded earlier. It might prompt you for a Security Warning, I suggest always trusting content from this publisher if so. Then it should connect up to your phone and give you a display of what is on the phone. Clicking should work, as well as keyboard now that your have change the write permissions to that data directory. Enjoy! It is a little laggy, but till there is something better out there, this isn't bad at all. And lets me use my PC Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse at work to stay connected on IM etc! The App will detect the orientation of the device, so if you want landscape, then change it to landscape and you can RIGHT click in the window to change the window to that orientation as well. Hope it helps, let me know if I missed a step, going off memory!
