How do I get twitter, facebook updates without manully doing it?

OK,

I am a droid noob, and new to twitter as well, how can I set it up so that my phone (Incredible) will alert me when a new tweet is posted, or a face book up date is done? Which app allows this?

any ideas? I am using peep and the twitter app that came with the incredible, and tweets do not refresh unless I manually hit refresh

Not sure which apps come on the Incredible, but you can download the official Facebook and Twitter apps from the Market.

Once you log in you can go into the settings and setup refresh intervals. It won't "push" updates to your device, but you can have it refresh every 15, 30, 60+ minutes.

I haven't really used the Twitter app much, but the Facebook app works this way.
