Consider this a bump as this is a great program to have for us unlimited data Sprint users, assuming you have Sirius.
To answer your question though - all TCPMP does in this instance is allow you to have another way to play the music stream. Personally, I find staying away from the built in Media Player a good thing, so I prefer using TCPMP. It's small, fast, and can play a lot of different formats (music, movies, etc).
