Any user of a Diamond can easily invoke this problem if they attempt to 'clean storage' and choose either of the last two clear options.
Most probably won't try and clean storage when they received their phone immediately, but this problem will come up repeatedly in the future as people begin clearing their phones.

An issue has been identified where the HTC Diamond could lose access to Internal Storage after the Settings->System->Clear Storage application is executed. This is the result of a manufacturing issue and was corrected in production 10/24/08.

this 'patch' is expected to be included in the next ROM update current ETA Q1 2009
in the interim the patch
should be avail from HTC site and/or Sprint Service Stores

Error 10 in device manager is a resource conflict/error.
