sprint is simply following policy. why should they eat the charges for a scam, when they had nothing to do with it? furthermore, the charges are not coming from sprint, rather asurion.

my point is that customers, sprint ones especially, are quick to blame everyone but themselves for problems. sprint no doubt creates countless issues of their own, but at the same time are often shat on for no good reason when they wont give a customer something for free, etc.
