My solution is to EQ and do everything else (dynamic compression, FFT filter, delay effects, other edits) on the WAV file
before encoding to MP3. Gave up years ago on trying to get portable player to do all that. It's just too processor intensive, sucks battery, creates internal heat, and begs for trouble. Probably not helpful if you have a huge collection already, but something to consider seriously if you've just started. Another solution is to incorporate an equalizer into your output system.
