Get Coreplayer - it's definitely worth the $ - i've tried different EQ's and the SRS and the sound quality from coreplayer's EQ is defintely the best.

If you get a program to rip your DVD's (i.e. #1 DVD Ripper, list mode) it will play those too. I am able to rip 320x240 videos to h.264 and get smooth playback in coreplayer.
