It's a Verizon phone. Sorry, I thought VX in VX6700 was a Verizon prefix. Learning all the time. (Is it vx or xv? I see it both ways all over the net.)

I have never touched that wireless sync program. Clicking on it brings up an installation screen which wants to connect with the data service (a charge for me). So I'm not touching that until someone says that's the only way to fix it.
Thanks for the Phonealarm tip, but it sounds like a coverup rather than a fix.
It's no big issue really. I've been tweaking this phone for almost a year now and this issue is the one thing I've left to resolve.

You know how something is 99.99% perfect and there is that one little thing that would make it 100%....?
You can't just let it go when you're so close.
