Are you using Sprint or Verizon. If it is Verizon and you are setup to use the wirelesssync software that is what is causing this.
The software on the phone is causing the light to turn on every time it checks for a data connection. I don't know if there is someway to turn this off, but if it is really annoying change your backlight timer.
I use a program called phonealarm in which I am able to set my phone to different settings at different times during the day.
In phone alarm, you are able to change your display to turn off after a certain amount of time when the phone is not being used.
Example: When I am home during the days and sleeping, I have all alarms silent and the backlight display set to 10 secs.
