As far as I was concerned, it was new information that I hadn't seen posted anywhere and there were discussions about a Touch Pro HD...just figured it would be something that some people would be interested in. I don't see any reason why it didn't warrant a new thread, but obviously he felt differently.
My annoyance is that if a thread were started based on every occasion someone reported what they heard from "some guy they knew," the boards would be flooded with nothing but garbage. In fact, they already are. It's enough that we have to weed through the people who make their own threads to tell us how they supposedly heard from their supposed friend who supposedly works at a Sprint store who was supposedly told by the HTC rep that there'll be an update for the Mogul next week that unlocks the secret EVDO rev. B support. We get tons of those here and it's painful to watch them go to 5, 10, 15 pages before the date finally passes and people slowly notice the jerk who started the thread hasn't been posting for a week.

But there's absolutely nothing remotely reputable about a comment on a blog. If the actual blog article itself said there was an HTC Touch Pro HD on the way, that would be one thing. While I'd skeptical due to the relatively small nature of the blog, it would still be from someone who had a reputation to put on the line and might be less likely to spew trash. You'd have my full support in posting about it, because it would at least give us a good forum to investigate the likelihood of the claim and debunk it or prove it right and have something to be excited about. But have you actually taken the time to read through comment threads on blogs? They are made up of 8% "frist p0st!!!1!", 30% sarcastic comments, 15% gripes about the author's grammar or factual errors, 10% links to supposedly-related blogs that are actually spam, 25% people who have nothing to say but just want their name to appear on the page, 10% complete lies, and 2% intelligent posts with valuable information. Read that guy's grammar, spelling, and lack of credible evidence and tell me which category you honestly believe he fits in.

I'm cool with posting rumors. But think about the reliability of the source of the rumor before getting people excited and lending validity to a crackpot. You made that guy's week as now his complete garbage lie comment on a blog has gotten several dozen people to give him attention and get them excited about something that doesn't exist. Do lowlifes like that really deserve our time? Let's concentrate on facts and reality and plausibility. We have a Touch Pro on the way next month that's going to be awesome. We don't need to spoil the excitement by getting people to be disappointed with that in anticipation of new device we have no credible evidence exists. Doesn't that seem fair?
