Not to be miss understood, but I can't force it to fail either, but I do know of three occations when this has happend to me. If it happens again and I'm by a digital camera I'll take screen shots of all tasks running, and perhap a video of me pressing the power button showing the screen glowing (is so ever dimmly).
On a side note (perhaps related in some way), when I did reboot the device the unit froze at 'loading touchflow 3d' or what ever it's call. Although it did allow me to hold down the power button again and the pop of 'are you sure...' came up and I was able to press 'yes' to do another reboot. This time no problems at all.
