The regedit is how you turn it on. Once it's turned on, there's an extra option for photo types, called GPS. When you select that, it says "Initializing GPS..." for awhile, then it shows a funky globe with a few bars on top of it. With regards to the links you posted, it's actually the P10 subkey you must go to, not the P9. They mention it's not working in WM6 (WTF?).
I've written a small app that takes the picture (using the HTC camera "dialog", complete with zoom functionality), and will capture the GPS information. But tying the two together has kept me busy in my evenings the last couple nights.

But I'm still making progress, I think. I just want to know if I'm alone, or if it's a worthwhile exercise.
