Interestingly, I've had the opposite experience. Using the original stock rom, my phone got fairly warm on occasion and battery life was fair at best, usually poor. Since applying the latest "stock" rom, it hasn't gotten warm once and the battery life is much better. Go figure. I can't think of anything in particular I might have done that I hadn't done 100 times before.
