I'm sorry to hear that.
I know that the same thing happened to me when trying to do MSVC from an OEM...no matter which one I tried (my own or one from the FTP), it wouldn't boot or I would get the WSOD. I just had to install MSVC from the Ext_ROM.
Don't know if it matters, but I'm running Helmi's original 3.3, with my own minor performance mods.
