Ideally, both situations can cause problems restoring a backup. I generally only advise backups when the ROM build doesn't change. But it is true that minor ROM revisions (AKU 3.3 to 3.5 for instance) would potentially cause less problems than major ROM revisions (e.g. AKU 2.2 to 3.0).
But in this case I believe you're using the same AKU (3.3) so you should be OK. No harm in trying though. If you get problems you can either bite the bullet and reinstall from scratch or reflash 3.3 b2 and then restore your backup.
