Agreed, if you are using AS and have O2K3 or O2K7 then everything should sync back to the 6800. There is nothing on the 6700 by default that has the contacts in it that you can read. Thats why it is good to use PIMBackup (start using it on the 68 if you are not already). Do you have Outlook and are the contacts in Outlook?
