Some things you do out of instinct. Others - just out of habit. Still - there are a few we do simply because they either sounded like a good idea at the time... or we "just did it" and have no idea why. In any mix and match of the above... I DID take the battery out - let it sit for @ 3 minutes, put it back in, hard booted and... the phone continued to load as desired... only to shut itself down and self reboot... over and over and over and... well, you get the picture. The only way to stop it was to remove the battery wait and put it back in. That was following the installation of the latest 5067 kitchen.
