Yeah, sand will do that to electronics. Fortunatley for you though is that you have insurance so they will either fix it or replace it. Usually though, insurance is for lost, stolen, or extremely damaged phones that can't be fixed so they might tell you different. So get to unrootin'. Or you can take a can of compressed air to it. Just pop off the back cover and spray the heck out of the whole phone.

Note:

Don't tell sprint you went to the beach and got sand in it. Just tell them it just started sounding like crap.
